it's funny that people compared Duke and Butler to David and Goliath considering both schools are nearly identical in size. it's more like david vs. david only one david had more weapons.
So, you are saying that Duke's basketball program and national attention is not Goliath compared to Butler? We are not comparing their science departments or student bodies. Duke spent more dollars per player than Butler spends on the entire program. How is that david vs. david? And I didn't even have to bring the coaches or previous banners into the equation. Your theory is pretty lame, imo.
i meant in physical size. i said david vs. david (physical size of being) only one david had more weapons (money, coaching, players, etc.).
We are not comparing their school sizes though. So why are you?
So Duke, year after year, being able to recruit kids with more "stars" has nothing to do with this argument?
good god can you read? DUKE = 6,400 undergrads BUTLER = 4,000 undergrads DAVID = 5 FEET GOLIATH = 6 FOOT 7 DUKE AND BUTLER, SIMILAR SIZES, HENCE THEY'RE BOTH DAVID (NOT GOLIATHS IN PHYSICAL SIZE), ONLY DUKE HAS MORE WEAPONS. In MY OPINION!!!!!
DUKE BASKETBALL PROGRAM = GOLIATH
BUTLER BASKETBALL PROGRAM = DAVID
What in the fuck does that have to do with their student bodies??????? It's not like I'm the only one to say it, did you watch ANY of the analyst before that game was played?

Y'all. I like that contraction. Do the words "fixing to" show up in any of the other regional dialects encountered by posters of OHB? It is common language here. "I am fixing to go to the store. I am fixing to cook dinner." I imagine Hog hears it a lot, he is close enough to me that it should have become part of the Arkansas dialect also. It is quite handy.
Well I am fixing to go back to work, so I best stop posting here. Oh yeah, "fixing to" is a big part of the vernacular, and ya'll is said in pretty much every sentence. At this point, i should admit that i use ya'll all the time now. It just happened naturally. Where i grew up in Southern In, most people said "you guys" so of course that is what i said, but i slowly went to the dark side after living here for awhile.
Oh and also, the way it is said around here by many people, it actually sounds around "fixin tu"

I still fail to see how people rooting for a "cinderella team" (in your eyes) makes everyone a bandwagon fan. How many people don"t root for david over goliath when it really comes down to it? Seems to reason it would be mostly goliath fans, right?
Is it uncomfortable to have your tail tucked that far up your asscrack as you run away from my post? I imagine it's gotta sting almost as bad as public embarrassment you've received. My perpetuation of the argument is pretty easily expained. I'm bored in hotel rooms this week, and ColtFan is a prick. To make a real contribution though, I'm never surprised when a team wins an unwinnable game. And gold standard.
Where did I run away? You claiming to win an arguement only makes you the winner in your own mind. How about answering the david/goliath question. Talk about running away. Prick? Is that really the best you got?
Alright, gonna step through this real slowly. If I need to rehash anything for you, just ask. It's pretty simple, but I've stopped making assumptions about your basic levels of comprehension.
1. You originally stated that Butler was though legit all season long.
- IUCOLTFAN
- Apr 26 2010, 09:57 AM
So, in your mind, being nationally ranked all season and having like 4 losses, was no hype? Many analyst stated that they were legit all season long. What were you watching all season?
2. I commented that was bull, there were no analysts that considered them contenders going into January given their collapse and mediocre record.
- Maker13
- Apr 26 2010, 01:51 PM
No, actually. Every analyst railed them in November and December when they lost most of their marquee matchups and went into 2010 at 9-4.
I then threw in a personal comment insulting the overarching lack of sense your posts make.
- Maker13
- Apr 26 2010, 01:51 PM
But that's okay, no one expects you to know what you're talking about anyways.
3. You seemed to disagree with me.
- IUCOLTFAN
- Apr 26 2010, 02:43 PM
Really? EVERYONE thought they were a fluke?
4. I then challenged you to back up your claim while I gave an example of 10 analysts from the largest sports organization which defended my point of view and refuted yours.
- Maker13
- Apr 27 2010, 11:17 AM
Find me an analyst that was still proclaiming Butler as a contender on Jan 1, 2010. Here's the best collection of analysts I can find in the 2 minutes this holds my attention span for. The best you're getting is 22nd in the country out of 10 voters. Not what I would call "legit".
I again threw in a personal insult against your overall intelligence, as its existence had been downgraded from "Ask again later" to "My sources say no".
- Maker13
- Apr 27 2010, 11:17 AM
Now resume being an idiot.
5. You derailed the discussion with an unrelated comment relating to bandwagon fans and posed a question about whether a proverbial David or Goliath has more fans.
- IUCOLTFAN

7. You claimed the "arguement" [sic] was still ongoing and that I was narcissistic or delusional, I'm not sure which. I only disagree with being delusional. You then called me out for ignoring the David/Goliath question, which is true (again, getting to it).

Alright, that brings us up to the present. Hopefully everything was plain enough for you to comprehend. I tried to be as clear and verbose as possible to avoid confusion.
Since you are under the impression that this discussion hadn't ended yet, I think a rebuttal is necessary from you on why those 10 analysts are an invalid sample, or better, who did think Butler was legit on going into January. If you wish to concede that line of thinking, however, I'd be glad to pick up the next topic which you've already introduced.
And I apologize for short-changing you when I called you a prick. You have definitely proved you are a giant prick.

So a good team i.e. "being legit" is now equal to being a "contender"? I stated that they were a legit team, I never said people expected them to win the tourney. The way they played defense made them a "legit" team, imo. Doesn't this entire board revolve around opinion? I thought they were legit and I'm pretty sure they proved it. Usless, to you, making the championship game is not proof enough? Too bad Robbie got hurt, maybe we could have all seen if Purdue was "legit". Because, without him, they sure as hell weren't "contenders"!
It really doesn't matter to me what you think anyway. This is a message board. It's not like I am trying to be friends with you. For that matter, not even "computer friends".

Allow me to repeat myself. If a team is legit, then there is no David vs. Goliath comparisons. Duke was a good team, not a Goliath team. The FLA teams with Noah, the MSU teams with , and the UNLV teams from the early 90s were Goliaths. A team that won 25 or so straight games and was in the top 25 is not a David team. The last at-large bid to get into the tournament isn't even a David team. A David team would be a team from a small conference who's only chance of getting into the tournament was to win their conference tournament.
Duke and Butler were almost mirror images of each other, David and Goliath were complete opposites. This is yet another attempt by Superfan18 to try to pretend like he knows anything about sports. Surprise, surprise, it has something to do with a team from the Indy area. Like I said before, the politics board misses you.....the sports board still finds you irrelevant.

Yeah, except for money, recruits, national attention......etc, etc.......they are mirror images of eachother. I finally see your point.
P.S. GO TOM BRADY!

You really have a problem keeping the key points of the topic in mind, don't you? Who gives a fuck about your opinion? You stated that the "analysts" had the opinion that they were legit. Those are people who are paid and documented to talk about basketball. And that documentation shouts that you're full of shit. Your statement was also about the public opinion all season long, not what was proved by the final game. Again, outside of Indianapolis and your delusional head, there was minimal to no Butler support in late December and January.
Please don't make me put this all together for you again. I think I maxed out how much I can dumb down an argument. If that was still too complex, then there really is no hope.
