Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Will be purchasing one or the other in the near future.

Thoughts on which is a better buy? I can tell you that I'm heavier into sports games than arcade shoot-em-up games.

I would highly recommend finding out which system your kid's friends (or your friends) currently have because sports games are definitely more fun when you can play against a friend. It sounds like most of this board has PS3's, so if you want to play against them occasionally, you'll need the same.

I got an Xbox 360 when they first came out, and it broke on me once. Their tech support was pretty nice at the time though. They mailed me a box with everything I needed to send it to them to fix for free. I think it took about 2 weeks to get back. It happened about 3 years ago and since then, I haven't had any problems. With either system, I'd try to find a manufactured date on it, since newer ones should have most of the kinks worked out.

Graphics aren't noticeably different. Some of the best games for both systems are exclusive though. Jazen loves MLB: The Show, which is exclusive to PS3. There's not really anything comparable to it on Xbox.

As far as online services, Xbox Live Gold costs $50 / year while the PS3 is free. Microsoft's strength is really in their online services as well as media center. I haven't had time to play video games in a while, but I use my Xbox almost everyday to watch NetFlix or to stream music from my server (buying an HP Mediasmart server was probably my best purchase in the past year). I plugged in my server, transferred some music and movies to it, and my Xbox found it instantly.

You'll need Xbox Live Gold to watch Netflix, but you'd probably buy that either way. The look and ease of using Netflix on the 360 is better than the PS3, but the PS3 isn't horrible. I believe with the PS3 you have to put in a disc every time you turn on Netflix like with the Wii. Sounds like something simple, but since I watch Netflix more than my cable, it would get on more nerves if every time I sat down I had to check to make sure the Netflix CD was in instead of a video game.

Last is of course the bonus of a Blu-Ray player if you don't already have one.

PS3 - The blue ray player alone makes it worth it.

Thanks for the input. Looks like I will go with the PS3. Didn't know about the blu-ray capability of it.

Also looks like there are better bundle deals on the PS3.

and MLB The Show (best baseball game out) is only available on PS3. that might be the killer feature for you.

Mattel Electronics Intellivision. The football game is awesome. I picked up the console and some game cartridges at a garage sale for $10. Seriously, I haven't played it since the early 90's.

I played B17 Bomber quite a bit. "Flak, watch out for flak..." The voice synthesizer had an interesting sound to it.
