Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

People gettin shitty about Crean again... classic.
like i've said, i'm more than willing to give him time. hell, not a lot of good coaches would have taken the job in the shape it was -- and for that i'll be forever grateful. anyways, i'm willing to give him the time, but there are still a ton of question marks. could we improve? yes, for sure. but there's also nothing i've seen that makes me think that we WILL be a force once again. we'll just have to wait it out and hope that the basketball gods smile on us for once..

They say ND was once a football power. Minnesota was once a football power.

It all goes in cycles.

IU will be good again one day

Man just let the new facilities settle in and let Crean get his recruiting pattern down. Let me remind everyone that none of his players formally committed to him followed to IU. Or not many. He didn't have much to work with.

He's going to try his ass off to get the right recruits here and coach a team into the tourney. Give him a complete glass to go through at least.

i'm willing to give him the time, as i've said, but there's nothing i've seen that can make me say for certain that he's the coach to get us to where we want to go. could he be? yes. is he? there are still too many questions.

-------------

also, Nick Williams followed him to IU and got creaned. Maurice Creek was also basically a Marquette commit at the time of Crean coming to IU.

You guys sure were pumped when Sampson was pulling exclusively JuCo classes...what happened to your mirth?

I dont know about this one either, I sure would have liked to have at least given Kevin Noreen a chance...a proven player...my cronies in Bloomington tell me his visit this weekend to IU has already been cancelled because of the Michel signing?

Dont forget...it hasnt been unusual throughout Crean's tenure for one kid's signing leading to another kid's transfer...like I said earlier, Crean has a method to his madness, and its hard to understand.

I've been reading the Indy Star blogs and such...I sure wish people would shutup about Crean "not being able to coach" and "not being a fit for IU" and "not being able to recruit"....he coached and won big-time in the hardest conference in the country for a long time. And did it without cheating. Good things will come...he has just got to get over this hump, get his first MARQUEE recruiting class, and win some games. It is going to happen.
Fallen, I have always respected your opinion and you bring good insight to this board, but how long do we have to wait? I was a little overzealous last year with my prediction, but really wasn't that far off either and it they would have been close to .500 if Creek hadn't gotten hurt. I am think they will play at least .500 ball next year, but how long do we have to wait for Crean to start winning 20 plus games? He may not have until the 2012 class. Maybe the AD is/will start putting pressure on him to win, the fans sure will.
Dedicated...(and this goes out to all the other guys, young and old) that are wondering how long this is going to take...

Like I said when Crean was first brought in, it almost did not matter WHO took Sampson's spot as head coach. The devastation at I.U. was complete. You could have brought in, say, John Calipari who is irrefutably the best recruiter in college basketball and he wouldnt survive (and even I realize that now). Why? His players don't attend school for school and basketball...they attend solely for basketball. That isn't tolerated at I.U.

Lets go back to the devastation factor. A fractured fan base, alumni being exiled, the Athletic Department making up for their revenue losses by tripling ticket prices (you have to buy a RIGHT to buy tickets now to attend an I.U. game), drug problems, a horrible G.P.A., a bunch of head-case players, and having to suffer the punishment left on the school as a result of Sampson's actions. If that is not catastrophic enough for you guys, the only thing worse than all that is a "Lack of Institutional Control" penalty by the NCAA. Programs can get wiped off the face of the map for that.

Its such an astronomical task to overcome all of that, that before you even THINK about winning and recruiting (all the fans seem to care about) you have to restructure the entire program, re-set the school's standards, win back the fans, start generating revenue, and so on and so forth. Fans are doing nothing but trying to cripple Crean's ability to do that by already wanting him fired for not bringing in great talent.

Now getting back to the only thing people care about...winning and recruiting "5 Star" players...Crean can do that, and there are some big name, good student, great ball players out there that have IU's name written all over them. Crean has to address needs immediately. Clearly we need defense and rebounding and size....and Michel does/has all of that. I figured it would be three or four years before IU was N.I.T. ready, and I think we are on that path. If Crean has a healthy roster this season, I see no reason why IU cant easily win 6 more games than it did this year. And with that success will come the big names everyone is so crazy about, hence making our postseason appearance even sooner.

Knight came in back in the early 70's, I remember vividly, and turned it around in a season. I've seen it done before. Its not the early 70's though now, and its much harder. Endorsements, money, agents, slimey coaches, etc etc make it that much harder. And there are some damned good coaches recruiters in the Big Ten AND in the state of Indiana now thanks to Butler and Purdue's being on the uprise. Its all competition and out-working the others. If I dont see that effort from Crean in a year or two, I will be breathing down his neck as well.

So the big names will come after a "successful" 16 win season ?

OK.

Perhaps, Ichycrotch, you would like to provide us with some of your brain-dead, retarded slug insight? Please, I beseech you to enlighten us with your wisdom...if there are any brain cells alive after the nightly beating your head takes being banged against the bed post after being reamed by your Davis Apologist butt-buddies.
