Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,

Here is a good read from the Adidas May Classic on Perea and DSR. By the time it is said and done, both these guys could be top 25 players.

I know I discussed this in another thread but that thread got dominated by Btown and DC, which actually turned into a great discussion. I think these two are Crean's to lose and if he doesn't land both or either one, Crean will be on his way out. I really think it is important for him to get DSR and start closing the in-state recruiting battle and start swaying them into IU's favor.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Pool play came to a close and the tournament play heated up on Saturday at the Adidas May Classic. A lot of the games were decided by wide margins, and Indiana Elite got a very strong performance from Hanner Perea to come away with a pair of decisive wins.

Perea looked Elite

Coming into the tournament there was no doubt that at the 16-and under level Indiana Elite was going to be tough to compete with. The host team is one of the most talented in the tournament, and that was on full display against undermanned competition.

Perea is an elite level athlete.
For the most part the highlights of Indiana Elite's win came from Hanner Perea. The 6-foot-8 forward is a physical specimen, and someone with absolutely freakish athletic ability. More than that though, Perea has a solid feel for the game and good hands around the rim and on the break.

In the win Perea was a monster. He blocked shots, snatched rebounds well above the rim, converted in transition, and threw down incredible ally-oops. His skill set is still a little raw on the post, but his strength and athleticism make him a very difficult matchup for most forwards, especially at his age level.

Joining Perea with a solid performance was D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera. The Indianapolis native continued his excellent spring with his play on Saturday. After struggling some with his outside shot at the beginning of the season, Smith-Rivera has caught fire from deep and is now a very reliable shooter. He is still at his best going to the rim using his power and great ability to change speeds, but now that the perimeter jumper keeps defenders honest he is even tougher to deal with.

Beyond those two, Indiana Elite had a solid showing from Obij Aget and Kenny Kaminski. Aget has been up and down with his play to this point, but he was blocking shots, running the floor, and corralling rebounds to make an impact. Kaminski is a high level shooter who is showing a greater aptitude for grabbing rebounds around the rim and scoring in the paint. Those are still growth areas for him, but the 6-foot-7 forward is definitely coming along in those areas.

I think we all should know by now that no one is "Crean's to lose". And the notion that Crean will be fired if he doesn't land Parea or DSR is ludicrous. I didn't even read the rest of the post after encountering this paragraph.

A little off topic but the Indiana Elite 17u team struggled this weekend without Austin Etherington. Maybe Austin is better basketball player than I think he is.

1) Autstin Etherington is very good. He's probably better than most of the players on our team right now.
2) DSR is definitely, positively, absolutely not IU's to lose. I'd be borderline stunned at this point if he came to IU.

Whatever!!! I meant that figuratively. This class could be a make or break class for Crean and I think DSR is an IU lean because he wants to major in Business and IU has one of the best Business schools in the country. Plus he hangs out with several players that spend a lot of time at IU as well. I don't know if he spends as much time as Perea or Jurkin does at IU, but he probably has been quite a bit. And if Crean does land him and Perea, most IU fans will be disappointed.

I think the point is that Crean will find himself on the hotseat if by year 4 he isn't able to land some of the top instate/national talent.

Truly that is what I meant. I shouldn't have stated like that because DSR, Perea, and Jurkin aren't really Crean's to lose, but he has spent an awful lot of time recruiting those guys. It would be a big disappointment if we don't at least land one or two of them, but Crean really needs to start proving to IU fans that he can start landing in-state talent. I still think the 2012 class will be Crean's make or break year. Hell, a guy that pulled me back off the fence is waivering more to the other side of the fence himself. I won't mention any names, but he is close to the IU scence. ;)

Just because IU has a top 5 business school doesn't mean some basketball player (sure his grades are incredibly good) will make the grades to get into it.

Kelly is a little tough to get into from what I've heard.

Thanks for the read Bliver. I did not know this was going on. Perea is a great prospect. I have seen highlight reels on him, and he will be the real deal. Kind of reminds a little bit of DJ when he aggressively attacks the basket. I haven't seen any videos on Jurkin, but you can't teach 7-0 and I heard he has talent.
