Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

On Bill Simmons' podcast he says that teams of today are not as good as the teams from 25 years ago. He qualifies it by saying the players are better, but they don't play as well as a team.............sounds so familiar.

Ha, you showed up long after I took beating after beating for saying that college basketball is down, teams just aren't as good as they have been in the past, etc.

Me! ;)

You haven't been the only saying it. I said it back in December or January when I watched IU/Syracuse play in the 1987 championship game. I stated there is no way the top 5 teams of last year would beat those two teams or any team in the top 10 that year. Hell, IU's 1992 team was a hell of a lot better than the top 5 teams of last year.

I will say this, Purdue will be very good next year since their best players back and their quality of players, team chemistry, team depth, and coaching could propel them to a final four and possibly could win it all. I personally wouldn't like seeing that because right now that is our only edge over them (5 national championships) and if they get one, then we can't use that trump card. But a team like Purdue staying together will come close to matching the quality of teams 25 years ago just because their best players have stayed at Purdue.

Purdue will still have the same problem they did this year......keeping up scoring wise with teams outside of the BT, and MICH ST. They just don't have scoring punch, and lost a very good defender so now scoring will be even more important.

And no, they are nowhere close to teams like the 92-93 IU team from a talent and team standpoint. Next year's Purdue team would struggle to make the top 10 in that season.

Well, maybe not for too much longer after some team gets desperate and offers him money to go to the pros.

It's too bad they won't institute a 2 year rule if you enroll into college, that would be the first step to improving the quality of the game.

I agree. If they at least have a 2 year rule, then it will force those kids to at least attend class and make their grades.

As far as Purdue goes, I think they could be around 10th ranked during the 92-93 season. I do agree that Purdue and any team rated in the top 5 next year will be hard for them to crack the top 10, or at least make it to a ranking of number 10, but with their better players returning, they could be one of two teams capable.

Struggle against teams outside the B10? Purdue was 14-1 against non B10 teams last year with it's only loss to the national champ without it's best player.
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

"I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

I should qualify that as good teams.............and yes, Purdue hasn't been able to keep up scoring wise with Duke for 2 years straight, and one of those games was a blowout loss at home.

Is it fun commenting when you don't read or listen to what's been said? He said better players, but worse teams.

Listen? We have an audio option?

And the assumption that worse athletes with better team play automatically trumps better athletes with worse team play is stupid.

Providence in 1987 was not a quality team....yet they made the final four. The final four game of Syracuse against Providence looked like two very mediocre teams playing.
