Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Just read it on ITH. I think we really have a shot with this guy. I just hope that Crean's in home visit doesn't blow it again. ;)

That could be possibly a top 10 class if we land Zeller and Young, along with Etherington.

Here is to hoping!

No worries...I don't think UB is going with Crean this time.

He'd be HUGE for IU if they can get a commitment from and get him enrolled in school. He's a big time player and fills a big time need. Still not sure he'll be eligible, and even then, if he could be admitted to IU.
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

That was the nail in the coffin when it came to Irving. ;)

IU isn't Purdue. If he commits, he won't be denied admission.

And you know this how? And wouldn't you be a bit alarmed by this?

Indiana's standards aren't nearly as stringent as Purdue's. Why would I be alarmed? As long as he performs academically while he is at IU, I'm fine with it.

10 years ago, maybe.

For undergrads now, they are very similar. If numbers show anything, IU's admissions appear just a hair more selective.

I'd have to see some data. I know when I was in school they were starting to get more selective, but I was under the impression they are not nearly as selective as Purdue.

nah -- the requirements are about the same, and actually the last 3 or 4 years the academic qualifications of IU freshmen were actually higher (even if by a hair).

*not taking away from the education you get at Purdue, both are fine institutions. :P

Well I hope IU hasn't gotten too selective. It was founded on the principle that it should be a school available to anyone within Indiana that wants to pursue higher education. Obviously in today's world, not ANYONE can get in, but I'm OK with taking a lower ranking as a school to remain true to our founding principle.

I mean the incoming class was still about 7,000, so they are still accepting about the same number of students. The main thing is that IU has done a really good job of recruiting highly talented students from the East Coast and from other parts of the US which led to a higher number of talented students applying. I believe that the standards for in-state and out-of-state do differ slightly, however (easier for in-state)..

I think the average SAT score (I read in the IDS the other day, so it's a bit foggy) was nearing the 1200 mark, so even though they're taking the same amount of students -- the people they are accepting are performing better on the SAT (read into that what you will).

Back to the topic. IU says it prefers students with at least 3.0 (even though we know it has to be higher than that) and SAT of 1170 or something. Based on that, it seems highly unlikely that BJ Young would get in as a normal freshman, so clearly there would be some work-around involved.
