Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Here is an article I found on ITH stating that James Blackmon Jr. just gave his verbal commitment to IU. I apologize if someone else already posted this, but I didn't see as I scrolled down through the message board.

Here is the article on ITH:

James Blackmon Jr. gives Indiana verbal commitment
by Zachary Osterman in Recruiting | September 3rd, 2010
It was a night for recruits, and a good night for recruiting Thursday when the Indiana football team took on Towson. Yogi Ferrell tweeted all about his trip to Bloomington, and there were reports circulating that Cody Zeller and his family were also in attendance.

But perhaps the biggest win of the night came when James Blackmon, Jr., a freshman guard at Bishop Luers in Fort Wayne, committed to play for Indiana. Blackmon, the No. 1-rated shooting guard in the 2014 class, according to ESPN, is the son of former Kentucky standout James Blackmon, Sr., who confirmed the news late Thursday.

The commitment represents another strong statement about Indiana coach Tom Crean’s success in building relationships with in-state recruits. Crean already has commitments from 2011 and 2012 in-state prospects Austin Etherington and Ron Patterson, respectively, and this pledge furthers the notion that Indiana recruiting is recovering nicely.

We’ll try to have more for you on this tomorrow. In the meantime, feel free to bask in the glow of an undefeated football team and another coveted commitment. Happy Friday folks.

No how am I suppose to know that is what that thread is for. I formally apologized ahead of time. I couldn't spend a lot of time on it here at work or sift through the other threads because I had the Plant Manager coming into my office every 5 minutes. Maybe Btown should put something in the Topic Description box so other would know what it was related to. ;)

Since the other thread was starting to get overrun by Evil and others, I decided to update this one. ITH just posted an update interview with Blackmon Sr. Click on the below link and find out what was said. Also, if anyone hasn't seen a video of this kid, scroll down to the bottom of the article and watch the video provided by ITH. He has a pretty smooth shot.

That's mainly because we've become accustomed to being let down in the past.

It's ok to be excited about this, Crean (as I've stated) has been working his ass off to get us back to where we need to be, and he is making big strides in just his 3rd year with us. It keeps getting better and better, and you best believe it's going to continue to do so.

Also, it's HUGE that he nabbed him as an IN STATE RECRUIT. He's the only player from the state of Indiana that's even been considered to ranking sites, and he's committed to IU. Not UNC, not Duke, nor Kansas or UCLA... but Indiana.

The fact that his dad was a star at UK, and highly supports his son's decision to play for Coach Crean is a BIG thing. This shows us that he'll likely honor his commitment, although it is very early. It also shows that James Blackmon Sr. disproves of coach Calapari and the way he conducts himself as a coach. (Because otherwise, he'd tell his son to reconsider... not commit this soon... etc, etc.). Seems like a great commit for Coach Crean. Even if he falls out of the #1 SG/#4 overall prospect in his class, I'm sure he'll still be high up on the list. I think we should all be thrilled that we've got the most talented player in the 2014 class in the state committed to OUR team for once.

I completely disagree with that statement.

Yes, it's nice to get that commitment, but let's be serious, he's a freshman in high school, this commitment has little to nothing to do with our immediate future..

That's as much as you know anyways...

Whose to say he isn't good friends with any other talent in the 2014, or even 2013 class? It's just a great start and something to look forward to. It's much much much better than having some no-namer none of us has ever heard about commit out of the clear blue.

I just think that with kids that age being as dependent as they are of there parents, that his father's input on it greatly effected his decision. If he wanted his son to follow his footsteps at UK for instance, I don't think any commitment or even "leaders" would have been given out yet. Some people (kids) would probably rather get the commitment out of the way so they can just focus on getting better and not having to worry about it. New facilities, better records (W/L), better and better recruiting classes, top notch university... there isn't much to regret for committing to IU if he's wanting to pursue a future in basketball.

I think it's definitely a positive for our future, not necessarily immediate future like you said. But more talented players are likely to follow a commitment if they'll have a top notch shooting guard to join their class. It could help in more ways than any of us know right now....

Definitely a positive thing though.

I'm excited about this commitment, but we have to keep this commitment in perspective. There is a high percentage of freshman and sophomore's that commit early tend to back out. I bet the percentage for freshman committing and then eventually backing out or opening up their recruitment is over 70%, but I don't have those figures. Maybe Brum will have them! ;)

I seriously doubt it's that high, but your point is taken. It certainly isn't 100%.

I know it's just talk at this point, and they wouldn't commit if they weren't serious about IU, but this quote makes it sound like they are pretty set on IU. Things can change though...

"He’s a combo guard, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound shooter and passer. Post-Thomas, Blackmon Sr. was not shy in saying he will showcase his son’s talents.

High praise and, if it holds up, there is certain to be a college coach or two that sees a verbal commitment as a non-binding agreement that could be easily broken.

Blackmon Sr. the father is proud of his son and is not going to cross that bridge until it comes, if it does. Blackmon Sr. the coach has a different take.

“As a coach, I know how to handle that situation,” Blackmon Sr. said."

It's definitely not 70%...well below that. You have to keep in mind as well that in a lot of cases a player decommits after a coaching change.
