Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Here in an interesting article I found on MSN on IU's "slow climb back". The quote that sums this article up IMO is "I certainly underestimated (the draw of Indiana basketball for recruits)," Crean said. "I expect everybody to view Indiana like I view it." I know some of you will eat this up. This is exactly what some have been saying on here, especially the Purdue fans. Crean used the "it's Indiana" too much and it didn't pay off early in recruiting. I think building and opening up a facility like Cook Hall is what is starting to pay dividends as well as Crean's hard work and him building relationships with the younger high school players. I think this is why Crean didn't land the big recruits early and we criticized him for it. Not only does the coach have to be attractive, but University has to be too. Maybe the next step should be to redo Assembly Hall? ;)

Here is the article:

meh.

it hasn't really been that slow. we basically enforced the death penalty on ourselves, and if we end up winning somewhere between 15-18 games next season, along with continuing to secure good recruits i'd actually say that it was an astonishingly fast climb back.

For him to say he chooses recruits from character and inner-drive is great. He also says the rankings and evaluator bullshit does not matter to him. That's awesome. That's what some of you that say I'm the biggest homer ever need to grasp. We're gonna be good next year. Decent this year, but good next year. I personally love the recruits we have coming in.

I also like the fact that he likes recruits that want to be at IU and in his program. If you don't want to be here (Bawa, Story, Williams) or don't want to come here (Carlino) then don't bother with staying at IU or staying committed to IU.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but when Crean says he "underestimated the draw of Indiana basketball for recruits" isn't he saying that that draw is GREATER than even he expected? Otherwise he would have overestimated it's draw.

I caught that too. Probably a false publication... or perhaps a slip of words by CTC? We'll never know.

The way I read it is that he expected everyone in the state and surrounding area to be like him on the fact that it's Indiana and the school basketball program, no matter who is coaching, should carry some clout. But it hasn't for quite some time and he was disappointed with that. That is how I think it was suppose to be interpreted.

Sounds like, to me at least, the article writer either misinterpreted what Crean said, or bent his words to work with his column. Either way, I don't think this article is what that quote represents. Quite the opposite actually.
