Growing up as a kid in Indiana, I learned "don't count your chickens until they're hatched." Wasn't Ben Allen a 4*? My brother is a huge IU fan, and always talks about their great recruiting. I haven't listened much the last decade, because it hasn't translated to many good teams on the floor. |

If one of or two of our recruits ends up a Ben Allen, we'll still be fine. Although Ben Allen actually went on to have a halfway decent career at St. Mary's. The same Ben Allen theory could apply to any recruit at any school, too. I'm sure you don't think any of Purdue's recruit end up being a Ben Allen. |

My memory is foggy at times, but I don't necessarily think Ben Allen was rated until we offered. Say what you will about Mike Davis, but he attracted some 5-star talent, and so a lot of scouts assumed Ben Allen was great without even seeing him once. |

I'd be very surprised if that's the case. He always played in Australia, so the scouts probably didn't see him until late. As wrong as national rankings can be, those rarely, if ever rank a guy without seeing them. |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

Cause you are right there watching film with them right? Don't make me bring up the guy Knight created who instantly became a multi star recruit. And Calipari still has never cheated. |

That was one scout like 20 years ago. That would not happen today. |

Well, I have no way of knowing what scouts watch or not, but Ben Allen was not a 4-star until we offered, and the day of the offer he became a 4-star. Maybe they had tape sent electronically to them from Australia, but I doubt it. If I was a 'scout', a 6'11" player that played on a national team offered by Indiana with a coach known for his recruiting was probably enough to inflate his ranking without seeing him play at all. |
