Hoosier Daddy?!

I thought since there has been so much negativity about this team lately (and deservely so), I thougt we should dwell on how well VO has been playing. No, he doesn't score a ton of points and isn't the leader of this team. But he certainly brings energy off the bench and has probably been the only consistent player the past three games. Also, he and Rivers are the only good perimeter defenders we have on the team. My point is that VO will be a solid role player for the upcoming seasons and should fit in nicely with all the incoming talent. What does everyone else think? |

i don't necessarily see him as a future star, except on defense, though he has been a very pleasant surprise and i expect big things. i think he can be a critical piece to a successful team, we just don't have the foundation at present to turn that into reality. |

Easily the most pleasant surprise of the season. He is the one guy who seems to play hard all the time. |

Gotta love this kid. Very aggressive defensively and never takes a play off. Although, I worry against teams like Wisky and Northwestern whether or not that aggressiveness will be used against him. I guess that's part of being a freshman.

He'll be in the bigs.... just needs to develop his shot and work on his decision making when passing. He's only 18.. and he'll continue to get better. We could use a team full of V.O's already. He's extremely coachable, athletic, and he plays with more heart that a lot of seniors even do. That's something you can't teach, so sky's the limit for Vic. Seriously probably the best lockdown defender in the Big Ten. Not saying he doesn't make mistakes, bad switches and what not but seriously 20+ Edited by tAmazingHoosier, Dec 29 2010, 04:22 PM.

i don't know if you can definitively say that. The list of 6'4 athletic guards is a long one, he will have to add something to his game that separates him from the crowd. |

This season? What are you smoking? He's not even the best lockdown defender on the team. |

Oh goddamn, you make the entire fan base sound foolish with comments like that. Have you watched every team and every player play? NOOOO...so you can't even make that claim. I think he's a great off the ball defender and help side defender, but I haven't been OVERLY impressed with on the ball skills. He still has some work to do in that department. |

That's funny... we must be watching different games. Saying he's the best in the Big Ten is going out on a limb but he is easily the best on our team. Rivers is also a great defender. He has pretty good anticipation. But who does TC put defending the inbounds when the game is on the line? When he isn't defending, he's fighting for every rebound. Like I said, he makes some dumbass mistakes but I think anyone new to something will make their fair share. The stats will continue to point in my favor as he continues to disrupt passes and add up steals. He can feed off his own energy and a lot of these games wouldn't have even been watchable if he wasn't in. I know Rivers has a good 4 years on him in learning the game, but non-stop aggressiveness and a knack for the ball isn't something you learn, it's instinctive for Vic. It's early yet but I'm all in, he's as good as he wants himself to be. |

yes. he over-pursues A LOT and makes a TON of gambles. some of them work out to great results, but some of them fail miserably. i mean he's only a freshman, so he has plenty of time to learn, but he needs a whole lot more discipline to be considered an elite lockdown guy. he has the skills and the will to do it, it's just about developing, being more patient, and not trying to force things. |

I'm sorry but if you think Victor is a better on-ball defender than Jeremiah RIGHT NOW you are out of your damn mind. |

Sheehey probably is even worse at over-pursuing but it's just part of learning the territory. It certainly worries me against the teams I mentioned earlier, but there is definite upside for him defensively. He has THE POTENTIAL to be ONE OF the best defenders in the Big Ten, LOL. |

Long term I actually think Sheehey will be a better defender than Victor if he sticks with it. |

i'd like to see sheehey get some more minutes too. he's athletic enough, but needs the on court learning experience. if this year's to be about learning again...i'm all for giving him a chance with his tool set and knowing we have him for 3 more years. |
