Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I've seen that commercial somewhere before. Being honest shouldn't be a hard value to grasp.

I am not a big fan of the foundation for a better life.

I think they also run the commercial where the mentally chalenged girl is homecoming Queen. Maybe it is just a different time but if we would have done that at my school in the late 80's we would have gotten our asses chewed out.

That's true.......but watch a sporting event and count how many times a player tries to get away with something. It happens ALL the time.

I watch sports with my 8 year old regularly. It gets tough when one of his favorite players does it. Baseball is especially bad because there is few judgement calls. He's out or he's safe, caught it or didn't, tagged him or didn't. These players will do anything to win. If the ref or ump didn't get it right it's considered part of the game........but it's different through a child's eyes. He's being taught to be honest and not cheat but then he sees it one of heroes doing it and doesn't understand it's part of the game.

Screw that. If I got away with that in a championship game situation, I wouldn't say a word.

Yeah.....because the commercial wants you to think that the kids were making fun of her.

I have no doubt that I would as well.

On a separate subject, it's disgusting how many high school coaches teach their players how to skirt the rules.....i.e., how to set an illegal pick and not get caught, or teach their offensive lineman to hold but hide it so it doesn't get called.

How does the kid know that he was the last one to touch the ball? He may have touched it, but there was a player behind him going for the ball as well. This isn't a pickup game. Proper sportsmanship is trusting the ref and being OK with his call, regardless of if it's good/bad/for you/against you, etc.

Dreach -- did you DVR it? Maybe we can slow it down and see who touched it last.

My take:

it's a commercial. If you don't like what it's selling, ignore it. Pass it on.

Dreach,

I don't get the foundation message in their ads. They make the mentally challenged girl Homecoming queen, The let a little kid escape and play the piano and then give the game away.

Bobo,

I understand that honesty is important but do we really need tv to teach kids morals. Morals should be taught at home.

Another early take: this one is going to be a HOF post. My prediciton is at some point it will contain a Justin Bieber comment, Jesus on a dinosaur, a reference to Painter and Crean, a picture of Peyton Manning, a photoshop of Hummel, a reference to the legalization of marijuana, a Jay Edwards sighting, and....get this....the return of UB.

Yeah, the piano one does piss me off. It should end with "child neglect.....turn it in."

I'm not looking for a commercial to teach my child. That's not the point.

The commercial brings up something that we as adult sports fans take for granted. But try to explain the difference to an 8 year old. You teach him to always be honest and tell the truth.........except when the ref gets the call wrong ? Except when it helps you win the big game ?

Your character is supposed to show up when times are tough. In sports, sometimes we teach kids to abandon their values for victory.
