Yeah, cause going to the line about 3 times per game is what sticks out in my mind. I haven't seen every game, and he hasn't been to the line often in the games I've seen. Actually, for the season he has the 2nd highest FT rate on the team. Since Big Ten play he has taken the most free throws on the team, shooting 62.5%.

i'm not a verdell hater, really...but i do think his time should be more closely managed...and i think this ITH article is shite...
"First, and maybe most important, I’ll ask the same thing I ask everyone who argues this point: If not Jones, then who? Jeremiah Rivers? It was Rivers whose turnover struggles last year forced him to the bench this fall, though tough defensive play has worked him back into the rotation."
this is absolutely the wrong mentality to take when assessing the team. it's the same mentality that warranted TP way too many minutes last year and at the start of this year. it's the...well, i guess it seems we should play these guys because they've been around and contributed, so i guess we should mentality. sure, rivers struggled last year, and eventually (maybe way too late?) his playing time suffered because of that, but he has been nothing short of great this year in his role. and, whose to say his role shouldn't be expanded?
"Jordan Hulls? Hulls doesn’t take enough shots in the offense as is, and he’s undersized to carry such a big load alone."
if anything, this is an argument for me why hulls should take more of jones' minutes. specifically, cause he has shot more and has shown a varied and improved game and when jones is in at the same time it impedes on hulls game and progression...which has been better than jones.
"Victor Oladipo or Will Sheehey? Child please."
on the basis of evidence so far this year, this is a ludicrously cynical statement. and in the minny game i would say verdell was the least influential of the 3, even with VO's poor shooting numbers and sheehey's limited minutes...
"Playing Jones while he works through his turnover problems in particular is a necessary evil."
no. he's halfway through his junior year. this program is about the future, and it goes well beyond next year and he simply cannot produce enough to make such a utilitarian argument.
"Let’s not forget that, while he’s never been stellar in holding onto the ball, he’s never been this bad either. I’m not expecting the young man to turn into Magic Johnson by March, but there’s an even chance that at least some of his problems are mental, and can only be worked out by time."
he's an upperclassman...halfway through his junior year. this is not a halfway house for underprivileged basketball players.
sorry...there is a role for jones, but it is not the one of a preeminent piece to the puzzle.

That is about as well said an assessment of Jones as I have read on here. I agree that the article was Shite. It is as if Btown wrote the darn thing himself.
The guy lacks mental toughness, concentration/focus, and good basketball IQ. If he is going to contribute, let Crean find a different role for him and let him see the game from a different perspective, preferrably the bench. It has seem to work for Rivers, why can't it work for him? Also, Crean said that the focus of this years team is defense and that seems to be what he does the worst. As long armed as he is, the guy should be able to create more steals, deflections and disrupt a lot of passing lanes, but the guy plays way too soft of defense and doesn't play good help defense either.

I'll take that as a compliment. That's OK, you can take as you want. I still like you as a poster even though sometimes we agree to disagree. ;)
