Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

My take on the trip:

It was intentional. He was T'd up for it. The Big Ten elected not to suspend Elston.

If Elston says he wasn't trying to trip the player, maybe he's only telling the truth in the sense that he was just trying to impede the player and not full out trip a guy. That's the only explanation I can think of. Like sticking out your hip or knee when a guy is trying to cut around you. Most of the time the player might stumble or widen his cut to get around. Sometimes he trips and a foul is called. This is more egregious because it's not a common basketball play. So I think a flagrant foul was the proper call.

I also don't think a suspension is necessary. At least not an official one. If I were Crean, I would sit Elston to start the next game or limit his minutes in an impactful way (like sitting him down during a key moment of the game). Whether the suspension is official or not means nothing to me. I do think a point should be made, but I think that can come in several forms and an official 1 game suspension sounds over the top to me.

Well said.

I also have no problem with it being handled internally. I also think a game suspension is too much. My problem is with the lie and the coach deferring to the player.

I'm not here to make excuses for the trip, it was obvious that Elston tried to do SOMETHING to impede Marcotulio. However, the only thing that leads to him not tripping him on purpose is that he never looks over to his right, the angle at which Marcotulio is flashing through the lane. Other than that, I think this has been overblown and probably should have been handled internally.

You can't see his eyes. Ever heard of peripheral vision? Kind of like in ball-me-man defense?

Look at his RIGHT foot before he moves his left. He adjusts it to keep his balance before he moves his left.

I've said too much on this so I'm done. But seriously Btown, you are starting to sound like a man desperately trying to put a positive spin on anything IU basketball.

I was basically saying that as the "only argument you could possibly make is this" type of thing. I don't personally believe that myself. It is very irrelevant as far as I'm concerned.

Who gives a shit? Set him some next game, which hopefully he does, and that's that. Yeah, it looked intentional to me too... but fuck it, if Derek wants to lie to himself and thousands of us, that's something he has to live with til the grave. Don't let it ruin your day..

I never once said Crean sucks. I get frustrated with players and wonder why Crean doesn't use the bench as a motivator. I have also wonder why he doesn't adjust his defensive and offensive schemes more towards his team to give them a better chance to win, but not once have I said Crean sucks. I am more frustrated with the players than I am the coach.

By the way, I have been kidding with Btown. Isn't that what this ;) means. I have told him at least someone has remained positive on here, some of us tend to go off the deep end sometimes.

I wasn't being literal. Justs saying that every offseason I'm on here trying to tell you that we won't be that good yet and every season I'm on here trying to tell you that things are not as bad as they appear. Ya gotta take a more objective look at everything. I know the offseason builds the excitement with the recruits that are committing and the videos of the the players working out and the hopes of what might be. And I know the season can bring a lot of disappointment with the obvious deficiencies this team has and has had for the last few years. It's not good to be at the extremes though, and teams rarely end up on those kind of outliers.

I realize that and I don't think predicting around a .500 record was too unrealistic for this team. I don't think we will reach that unless this team starts getting their heads out of their asses and start playing smart basketball on both ends of the floor. I know we lost Guy, but this is the same team that won 10 games last year and we played an even more cupcake schedule this year so predicting 5 more wins this year should not have been too far fetched.
