It's just ridiculous to think that Crean is going to bench any of the aforementioned players for "games" at a time. Thank you for saying that. I feel like the IU fiathful have been having this argument forever and that comment is all that needed to be said to finish it.

Agreed. You aren't going to punish a player for playing poorly by suspending him for multiple games. Talk about destroying a kid's confidence...
IMO, it is not about confidence, it is about motivation. It is about pressing the right button to get them to play harder, with more focus and better judgement. I would rather get beat by 40 if it proves a point and gets players more motivated to play in future games. Also, if running their ass off motivates them, then so be it. If carry pig shit out of a pig staul motivates them, then so be it. If not screwing the fatest, nastiest, slimyest bitch on campus motivates them, then so be it. That is all we want and I think that is pretty much what panchen is saying as well. Crean just needs to keep pressing the right buttons. He did against Michigan and hopefully it will continue against Wisky. I don't expect them to win up there, but just play hard, make good decisions, and compete. I am sure that everyone wants that. By the way Obat, I have been messing with you for most of this shit. You usually have good humor, but lately you have been too serious minded. What is wrong buddy, haven't you gotten laid lately? ;) When I use this ;) I am just kidding around. Haha, well you use those in pretty much every post, so it's hard to know what is serious and what isn't. I know you're a proponent of using the bench as a motivator, but for multiple games at a time is just silly....maybe you were kidding when you said that though.
I haven't been to the bars in a couple of weeks so maybe I am uptight. Plus, we've had a rough stretch of it lately on this board. Purdue losing twice in the last week helps, but we haven't played quite as well as I had hoped we would, and after a good win, all this benching jargon has my mind spinning.

"Michigan has #2 OSU and #3 Kansas leading up to this game. Ouchie.I think that could benefit them. They will be used to stepping up their game because of the competition they are playing. Not saying IU shouldn't win this game, but unless MICH is totally beat up I think it will be close." - Evilempire
NOTE: First Evil said the hard week on Mich's schedule would help them...........now, since IU won the game, it is the reason for their demise?? Nice!
"It's good to win, but lets not get too excited. IU had almost a week of rest while MICH played WISC-KANSAS-OSU in the 10 days or so leading up to that game, including taking KANSAS to OT and only losing by 4 to OSU. This was obviously a letdown game for them, and it showed in the 1st half. It was nice to see IU playing with a lot more effort. I'm more interested to see how the next 5 games play out from an energy/effort standpoint." - Evilempire
"
It does sound like he contradicted himself. It is like a weather person, they can predict the weather and say one thing but really mean another. They are never wrong with what they say and how they say it. Either way, Evil was right, now wasn't he. ;) There's a misquote in there somewhere cause I never used the word ouchie....pretty sure that was a Btown thing.
MICH played 2 of the top 5 teams in the country pretty close. They couldn't make anything in the 1st half and IU missed 14 shots all game. I said playing against tougher competition would either beat them down or get them in the habit of valuing every possession. Sometimes the ball just doesn't go in the basket.
You guys are crazy if you think I'm going to overreact over 1 half of playing hard.....IU gave up a ton of points in the 2nd half. I've seen so many other games this season where they haven't played hard. Like I said, let's see if they continue to give a lot of effort. They quit for a long stretch last year, and they haven't done much this year to show me they've changed all that much. Man, some of you put way too much stock into 1 game....must be some of the same guys who thought Ratliff was awesome if he caught fire for a game and scored 18 or so. You have to look at the whole picture.

I am a supporter of using the bench and Crean did use it for Watford and it did seem to work. I don't know if it would work for VJ, but whatever Crean did this time around for him and the entire team, he needs to squeeze every bit of juice out of it until it drys up like a prun or an 85 year old whore. If players start going back to playing like they did before Michigan, then I would like to see Crean do it. He may not, but I know there are other methods, which won't include choking a player but may include hanging weights from their man sacks. ;)

That's what I'm here for; to put an end to arguments! I think you were being serious with those comments, and in that case, you're welcome! I was being very serious. No coach is just going to go and bench a starter for a game let alone multiple games just to send a message to play harder. There are so many other ways he can do that.

This IS what you said. "They WILL be used to stepping up their game..........."
I'm confused then, was it IU not missing many shots, IU's hustle, or MICH being "totally beat up" that explains IU's win?
