I'll go ahead and rank the top 10 active quarterbacks as they are in their career right now. 1) Manning 2) Brady 3) Brees 4) Roethlisberger 5) Rodgers/Rivers 6) Rivers/Rodgers 7) Vick 8) Ryan 9) Flacco 10) Manning Bubble: Freeman, Schaub Anybody disagree with that ranking? |

As far as their career goes, I don't think there's any way Manning is ahead of Brady. I know I'm in the minority on that one. I just can't get over Manning having a losing record in the playoffs with only 1 ring while Brady is 11-5 with 3 rings. Although if I had 1 QB for one game, I'd have a really hard time choosing between Big Ben and Brady. |

This is the United States, so obviously it's another conversation that turned into the debate about who's the best QB. Seriously, one of the stupidest things you could ever argue about. |

...you are proving my point...i'm debating whether you even need an "elite" qb to win the Super Bowl...it seems to me that you need a very good defense more than anything... ...and don't make it sound like the difference between the #4 defense and the #11 defense is huge... ...i hate the arguments about Manning not having a good defense...his head coach was one of the (arguably) greatest defensive minds in the NFL, he has had Freeney and Mathis basically his entire career (they have forced 77 fumbles - do you realize how many more possessions, stats, points they have single-handedly given Manning and the Colts offense) , very good linebackers (June, Thornton, Bracket, etc.), and an above average secondary (Bob Sanders was Defensive Player of the Year for crying out loud, Bethea, Harper, etc.)... |

please never use Nick Harper and "above average" in the same sentence. Ever, ever. He, Jason David, and Tim Jennings were three of the most rottenly bad coverage guys I've seen in Blue. Harper and David were named in Deadspin's 100 worst football players of all time. |

It is huge when you consider that out of the 7 seasons that i looked at they had two really good years, one where they ranked 5th and one 2nd, that really pulled up their averages. Without the outliers, they were generally a middle of the pack defense. The steelers on the other hand were basically the opposite. Most of the 7 years they were top five, with one or two years in the high single or low double digits. And i do think you are right about not needing an elite QB. You just have to have the right combo of defense and QB. A great D isn't going to overcome a bad QB and vice versa. Let me ask you this though. If you had to pick a great QB with a mediocre defense, or a very good QB with a very good to great defense who would you pick? |

...lol...you don't need to tell me (a Titans fan) about Nick Harper - i know how horrible he can be...but...there was a period there where he was a very serviceable corner (especially when you have ends like Freeney and Mathis)... |

lol i bet Bill Polian and Jim Irsay laughed pretty hard after they let Nick Harper walk and Tennessee jumped to sign him. As for David Thornton and Cato June, look, I LOVED those guys when they played for the Colts BUT how poorly they played after they left just proves they were system players. I have no doubt both of those guys would be potential pro-bowlers if they had stayed with the Colts. Oh well, I love our linebackers now too. |

...that is the $$$multi-million$$$ question and GMs (that are much, much, much smarter than any one on this board) have to answer every day... ...i, personally, would rather have a mean nasty defense with a decent qb...i have always been a fan of a solid defense and a solid running game (my Titans and Bears)...it just seems like it is sooo hard to find that "elite" qb...but you could have a defensive philosophy and just keep plugging guys in there and then get that qb every 10 years or so that is going to be able to do just enough to win... |

I totally agree. I love seeing physical, nasty, bruising defenses that make you afraid to come onto the field and try to score. If you can get a guy that runs a system like, say, Matt Schaub, I think you can be a VERY competitive football team. |

Which is basically the situation with Manning and Rothlisberger. I am not saying Rothlisberger is bad - he is very good, maybe even great. I guess what i am trying to say is just getting back to my point about wins and losses -specifically playoff and SB wins and losses. |

...Thornton actually played really well with the Titans - arguably better than he did with the Colts... ...and again, Harper was perfect for the Titans because when we brought him in we had a dominant D-Line (Haynesworth and Vandenbosch, in their primes, anchoring with a very good rotation) and all Harper had to do was be average... |
