Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Couple Tweets today from ITH about people charging ESPN with stealing their work. They have all the resources in the world, why on earth would they feel the need to steal other people's material? Here are the Tweets.

RT @lukewinn ESPN: Thx for stealing "Who's Feeding Jared" w/o attribution! (mine: http://bit.ly/hIzcFd / theirs: http://twitpic.com/3x6h2r)

RT @richarddeitsch Second writer today tweeting that ESPN does not credit his work. Big charge here: http://bit.ly/h9Aoh9

I have heard that it is a fire-able offense at ESPN to a) not cross-promote other ESPN interests and b) to attribute or recognize other websites, articles, broadcasts, interviews, or networks, so this doesn't really come as a surprise to me.

I would think there could be some sort of intellectual property suit here, no? If not, then the next time these guys come out with some awesome info, they need to get it secretly copyrighted before they release it. Then sue the shit out of ESPN.

Problem is that nobody owns statistics. Unless they start quoting word for word or stealing graphics, then it's doubtful that anything can be done.

I don't know. If I do research for a paper and find out that 37% of Americans brush their teeth with a blue toothbrush and that paper becomes published, I think you would have to reference me if you use the statistic in your own paper.

The thing is, he didn't get his numbers from box scores or something. He did the research himself by watching the video of all 22 OSU games. Definitely deserves credit.

Legally, I don't think he has much of a case for various reasons, but it's a busch move by ESPN. He'd have to prove that the statistic was copyright-able (it isn't, he didn't author the statistics, just the graphic), he'd also probably have to prove that ESPN gained improperly from the copyright (there is no perceived gain from it).

Yeah, I'm sure it's not copyrighted and so he has no legal ability, but it's just a dick move. Just credit the fuckin guy who put countless hours into that.

On a side note, I had a teacher at IU that had her class powerpoints copyrighted. You had to sign an agreement to download them to your computer. SportsIllustrated should do this and then pray ESPN steals some more stats.
