Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Was bored, jumped over there for a sec to see what was going on. Saw this quote in the first thread by an IU fan:

"IU definately has a shot at a NC title. IU should by all prbability lose less games than the 1987 team did , and that year Syracuse and a guy named Ron Seikaly was all the rage. Does anyone looking into their crystal ball see another 74-73 finish??"

My bad for even going over there in the first place.

obviously i want to believe...and the homer in me does, but...

the '87 team was clinical. i would say henderson's senior year was on equal ground prior to his injury (definite 6th title if you ask me). sure, this year's great...but NC?...c'mon...

I would be more than thrilled just to get into the tournament. Being ranked as high as we are, and playing as well as we are to this point, has way exceeded my expectations.

Finishing in the top 3 (possibly 4) of the B1G, IMO, would be a major success for 2011-2012.

Dear God is right lol. They're way worse than me. Matter of fact, I think for the most part I'm pretty level-headed when talking IU basketball now. Or at least much improved ;).

One thing that does stick out in memory was that the 87 team probably should have lost in the elite eight game against LSU. LSU had a 75-66 lead on IU with over four minutes left when Dale Brown went into a delay...they didn't take another shot from the field the rest of the game.

yeah...and dale brown also had the lsu guards punching alford's abdomen at every opportunity.

lsu deserved to lose. and it's a huge credit to the '87 team that they were able to overcome such adversity...not to mention a backhanded compliment that lsu was forced to adopt such a strategy.

I'll play devil's advocate here.

This is a really tough thing to grasp. I mean most IU fan believe we're ranked too low at #12. So let's say most people think we're a top 10 team, or at the very least have played like a top 10 team so far this year.

At what point in time has anybody ever said, "they're a top 10 team, but they have no chance at a title."

Maybe people would say that about a mid-major, but a top 10 Big Ten team? Now sure, there's the argument that we haven't gone through the Big Ten season and it's pretty likely we won't be playing like a top 10 team all year. That said, what if we're playing like a top 10 team at tourney time?

I don't think this is a top 10 team and I don't think we have a shot at a national title. The point is though, if you really feel like this is a top 10 team in the country, why wouldn't you feel like they have a shot at a title?

Agreed. I think we're capable of beating any of the top ten teams with the toughest teams being Cuse and Kentucky and we already beat one of them.

I wouldn't compare them to the 87 team, but if we make the dance we have a chance. It's all about who's hot and playing great team ball on both ends of the court in march. Right now we are doing that and could make a run. Look at the last 2 years in the dance and who made the final four, everybody has a shot at a NC.

What I think it will take for people to believe is road wins. No team in Div 1 has two better wins than IU does at this point, but...and there is always a but...they were in the friendly confines of Assembly Hall. When IU shows they can win a big one on the road, then everyone's eyes will be forced open. If that does not happen then an NC is out of the question.

Still too early for that kind of talk with the current body of evidence.

"Liberal, shmiberal. That should be a new word. Shmiberal: one who is assumed liberal, just because he's a professional whiner in the newspaper. If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed

Oh I absolutely agree. Just saying there are teams that people believe are top 10 caliber. If a particular person believes Indiana is a top 10 caliber team (thereby believing they will do well in future games) then I'm assuming they of course think IU has a shot at a NC.

I mean Missouri doesn't have a single good road win (just one road game all year). They're nonconference schedule was cake (323 in the country). But they're undefeated and many people believe a legit top 10 team (I'm not one of those people). I would assume anyone that thinks they are a top 10 team also thinks they could win the NC. That's just a logical conclusion to come to.
