...then why did I just now find out about Mitch Daniels college arrest for drug possession as part of an investigation centering on he and his room mates with intent to distribute? For christ sakes, we are talking about two shoe boxes full of pot...with the kicker of also having LSD and prescription drugs without a prescription. Didn't see it mentioned on this board, didn't hear about it until it came up as a side note in an article I read...why is that? |

because the liberal bias is with the national media, and Daniels has never ran for national politics. BTW, are you really refuting the liberal media bias? If so, would you like some stats, or could you please just admit reality on this one. |

Wow. if he wasn't such a douche, I would vote for him. |
![]() "Liberal, shmiberal. That should be a new word. Shmiberal: one who is assumed liberal, just because he's a professional whiner in the newspaper. If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed Meat is Murder. Sweet, delicious murder. | |

Fixed your post. Obama admitted to doing cocaine when he was younger. As a society, we've decided that some youthful drug indiscretion is ok. Try to keep up. |

1) Just because it is the first you've heard of it doesn't really mean anything 2) Not sure Daniels has ever had enough national recognition or power that would have required such a thorough vetting and exposed him to the national medias scrutiny 3) I'm quite sure if he would have decided to run for President it would have made its way into a national scandal 4) Nearly every politician has something you could dig up if you really had the time or resources |

1) Obiviously I'm not he only person who hasn't heard of it....and I follow politics pretty closely. 2) ....um, didn't he just give the republican response to the State of the Union? 3) This was an arrest that obviously was known about...yet I sure as hell don't recall it being mentioned at all during the time when he was deciding to run. 4) Come on. The fact that we hold a lower standard for politicians says something about us as a society. I couldn't be hired as a teacher if that was on my record. Yet I was 'drunk' for posting this....whatever. |

When did 'youthful drug indiscretion' become intent to deal LSD and prescription drugs? And the amount of pot he had would now automatically qualify for intent to deal by itself. |

Let me clarify by saying that it would now keep someone from being able to obtain a license because of criminial history checks. The amount of drugs would in most states would automatically place it intent to distribute, which is a felony. You can not obtain an Indiana teaching license with a felony. Secondly, even a plea bargained case would likely result in a teacher being fired. While I agree with you that unions protect some teachers for on the job performance that is suspect, that does not extend to cases in which they have been found guilty. I know in my district that our contract most definitely has an ethics clause that would make the contract void. |

I agree he may have crossed the line, but personally, I wouldn't disqualify him from politics for mistakes made in college. |

Using this as "proof" that there is no national liberal media bias is crazy. |

Never said it was proof. I just find it very strange that people in Indiana don't even seem to know about this. I thought it was just me, but I've talked with several people -- many who are VERY anti-Mitch Daniels and would latch on to the story -- and none had heard about it. There's really only one newspaper in Indiana that could make a difference in reporting the news statewide...and they most definitely have a pro-Daniels slant. While there may be a national liberal slant, the state and local slants can be much, much different. Edited by brumdog44, Jan 29 2012, 01:20 PM.

I wouldn't either, but I think you would agree that it's not beyond logic that some people would. I definitely think a candidate breaking the law (or even something like Obama's admitted cocaine use, which is against the law regardless of not being charged with a crime) is something that the media should be reporting to let the public decide. Instead, we hear the media focus on 'issues' like Mitt Romney paying 15% of his huge income toward taxes, an attack started by someone who wants to change it to 0%. This is an issue? |
