Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

In defense of #1, as soon as you are old enough to play in a league that allows base stealing you are taught to protect guys trying to steal a base.....when a ball is generally coming at 90+ mph you dont have much time to de-commit to a pitch. Obviously in the situation the offensive team was trying to get the base runner in scoring position either with a hit and run or a straight steal....hitters are supposed to protect the runner in that situation. Although the swing was at a pitch well outside the zone I wouldnt hold it against the hitter unless I knew the exact game situation that it happened in. I'm sure that is not the only time in MLB that a hitter swung at a pitch like that in a given game situation. Most of the others appear to me that either the hitters were trying to guess the pitch according to ball/strike count or situation or the were facing pitchers that on that given night had really nasty breaking stuff and the hitters werent seeing te ball very well. In all of MLB there are some pretty bad swings taken over the course of the season either due to game situation or quality of pitching that given night. There is a reason why most people with any sports knowledge will tell you that hitting MLB pitching is the toughest thing to do in all of sports.....becase it is.

It may look funny in a 3 second clip to a casual observer but baseball has a little more strategy and nuance than most casual observers even care to know.....its just the baseball coach coming out of me....coached for years.

I agree with the strategies you laid out and thought about them too but it's funny to me regardless. All I was saying was the video wasn't meant to analyze coach ;)

right...it was meant for the casual fan who knows nothing about the game. Either that or the writer who posted it is having a really slow news day.

So taken in context it is really not that funny, yet you found it so funny that it was in your top 2. Weird.

If you've played baseball, you know why it's funny.

Not from last season. Those are the ten worst swings of 2011 based on pitch/fx data.

Stats!
