Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

He has better be in Omaha or we are going to have to start Chooch.

"Liberal, shmiberal. That should be a new word. Shmiberal: one who is assumed liberal, just because he's a professional whiner in the newspaper. If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed

I'm hoping that next season Chooch is going to be the best of Brad Miller and Steve Shefler, punishing Cody "walking stick" Zeller.

Heard many many Turdue fans claim that Carroll would be better than Zeller.

I'm sure Liars and HomerVision were 2 of them. and it goes without saying Dcums did as well

Interesting to see so many players from small school on that list. Brum im not sure what goes into your formula, so could it be just because they are so much better that the people that surround them they are naturally asked to do more?

That is partially it. AWAR isn't necessarily meant to measure what player is better -- it is meant to estimate how much a player would improve a team if his stats were transferred to a team of replacement players. Strength of schedule is factored in (i.e., Cody Zeller received a bump of somewhere around +1 WAR for the minutes he played with IU against their SOS while Damian Linnard of Weber State received a penalty of -.3 WAR for his time at Weber State. I fully expect that if Anthony Davis were on a mid major that his AWAR would be higher than it currently is, which makes the fact that he led the nation in it even more impressive, IMO.

On the other hand, sometimes players AWAR values might actually increase if they were playing at a major because of the bump in SOS. A guy like Machado of Iona might be one of those guys....Machado has a very high AWAR of 7.5 at Iona, but let's say he was at North Carolina. I think Machado is much better player than UNC's point gaurd Marshall -- Marshall IMO is Machado without the ability to score or rebound, IMO, yet Marshall put up a WAR of 5.3 at UNC. I think if the two switched teams, Machado is at least a 7.5 at UNC -- maybe higher -- while Marshall's value drops at Iona.

What's Scott Martin's AWAR?
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

"I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

Interesting one. I'll work it out and give it to you later. I did it in the very early season and it was really bad, but I know it got better. If I had to guess without looking, I'd expect it to be between in Verdell Jones territory (Jones was at .9).

Just looked at his stats (haven't calculated his AWAR yet)...still guessing around the 1 mark, depending upon their SOS. Poor shooting without a whole lot of made threes, didn't get to the line all that much this year while historically he has been able to, but he did have a redeeming quality in rebounds. Assist/turnover ratio of 1 to 1.

Okay, had a couple of minutes so I calculated. AWAR suggests what you have been saying about him -- it comes out to a very bad -.6.
