Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I'm not talking a shot-blocker either. On the ball defender; who's the best you've seen?

I thought Kramer, as much as I disliked him, was absolutely nails on defense. However, I think Craft is even better. I'll give Kramer the nod as far as being more versatile (he would guard the other team's center on occasion), but in terms of defensive skill I think I have to move him down to #2 on the list of players I've seen. Like him or not, Craft is just amazing on defense, and honestly, I think he's a joy to watch. So smart, so quick, so instinctive...and he's only a sophomore.

Your thoughts?

Craft is not the best defender in the conference, IMO.

Back in the day, I have seen some pretty good ones at IU. Jim Thomas, Jamal Meeks, Chris Reynolds, and Quinn Buckner.

Kramer was just a normal on ball defender. I thought E'twaun turned him himself into every bit as good of a defend as him by his senior year.

Craft is good, but some guards have just went off on OSU the past few years. I think he's good at causing havoc a la Kramer.
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

Walton from MSU and Frazier from UI were both really good too.

Chris Kramer drew the assignment of the team's best guard or small forward. Craft doesn't. If Craft is the best on the ball defender in the Big Ten, then how come Buford draws the tougher assignment on his own team?

Craft is a good, gambling defender. He can afford to be with the rest of the Buckeye's defenders behind him. But he gets an illogical reward for being a smaller guy who defends, something that doens't make sense.

Fife was pretty damn good. I'm not sure I've paid attention enough though to recognize the best one I've ever seen. I was a UConn fan growing up and remember the backcourt of Ricky Moore and Khalid El Amin. Moore was a pretty lockdown defender I believe.

Metta World Peace FTW.

Seriously though, I've always loved watching Ron play. Even if he did single-handedly implode the Pacers after the brawl in Auburn Hills.

Also, Mutumbo has to be mentioned. Bruce Bowen, and hell I'd throw Kobe on the list. He gets so much praise for his offense when in reality hes been a very solid defender in the NBA. Serge Ibaka will be on this list in a year or 2. Dudes crazy good on defense.

Well, I saw Michael Jordan play a lot, and I don't think I've ever seen a more determined, lock-down defender than him.

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

MJ was a VERY good defender as well.

I hate the Michael Jordan bandwagon though. Yes, possibly the best player of all time. Hence his rings, global stature, career statistics, but it gets beaten into the ground that he was "the best player ever". I'd like to go on record saying that I've NEVER been on the MJ bandwagon. Fun to watch? Well HELL yes. But, I've never been a sheep, though.. Not saying I do it just to be different, I'm just a realist and know that there were ones before MJ that were just as influential to the game, and there's been players after MJ that have elevated the NBA.

Just a personal peeve of mine. And, because he was such a great player, people think he's just as good as a person or as a professional. News flash: He's one of, if not the worst, owners in the NBA. He's somewhat clueless in that regard, just a guy worshiped by millions with a lot of money that loves basketball. Doesn't mean he is business savvy or knows the coaching aspect of the game. And it reflects with his dismal Bobcats.

I can't think of the best defensive player I've seen, but I do remember the best defensive team I've seen. Not sure if most of you remember the '96 Kentucky Wildcats. 40 minutes full press. Fucking relentless. Every game, all game.

Quality isn't so good and the music sucks ass, but you get the idea.

You're all nuts . . . . Bobby "Spiderman" Wilkerson was the best, smooth, jumped center . . . the guy had a wingspan, countless times he broke up 2 on 1 breaks! Amazing cat . . . very underrated!!

I forgot about Wilkerson, he was very lengthy and cat quick.

What about Dakich when he shut down MJ. ;)
