Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

He single-handedly won me money in one of my fantasy leagues that year.
Missed that part, although when I saw the linked thread was 25 pages, I didn't proceed much further.

How much money, or is that too nosy?
$25. Nothing extravagant. The thing is, I was joining a keeper league that had been running for 3 years already. So I had to build my team from scratch after all the leftovers from guys that weren't kept. Votto was gold.

Excited to have him again. Already having one of the best fantasy years I've ever had.
$25 had nice sentimental value since you built from leftovers; I'd be proud of that as well.

Agree with Boat. Small market - no DH - if he doesn't perform in the first 4-5 years like he has been he will be almost impossible to trade. He had 1 yr left on his deal, why didn't they just offer 4 or 5 more years? I don't like this contract, IMO it is worse than if the Cards would have given Pujols what he got from the Angels. Albert was a hometown boy, helped bring a couple more championships AND played for one of the top organizations EVER and couldn't get that deal in the NL.....wow.

I had to think about this for a while because I know almost nothing about Jews except there are a lot of jokes about them and none make sense to me....

Was that a joke reference about how Jews are supposedly tight with their money so winning $25 was a big deal?

I doubt they can afford Phillips long term. What is their payroll, $75 million? And Votto is gonna be making roughly 30% of that within the next 2 seasons.....thats dumb. I'm surprised Walt did that really. This move is so not Walt Jocketty. Maybe Votto has more local marketing value than what value would be gained from actually winning? You can't pay 1 player 25-30% of your payroll. I can't see how this will translate to wins.

I dunno. Pujols will be under contract at the age of 42 for $30 million. Fielder's contract ends when he is 36, but I think with his body he won't be as productive as Votto at that age. Votto is right in the middle. The plus for Fielder and Pujols is that they can DH.

But all this is besides the point. Votto's contract is the best because he's JOEY VOTTO. Enough said.
Well, they are only going to be paying him $12 million this year, which is dirt cheap for what he'll give them.
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

"I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/how-have-previous-joey-vottos-aged/

Fangraphs puts it in the 'okay' deal category.

Anyway, I think the proper comparison would be Adrian Gonzalez. I think the Fielder deal was ridiculous. AGon and Votto have close to the same value -- I'd say that AGon is a little better, IMO, because he's an incredible fielder and he's put up most of his numbers in an impossible park to hit in while Votto is in a great hitter's park. AGon has also put up more years of numbers than Votto and there is only a one year age difference. AGon signed for a seven year, $154 contract last year.

So I'd say that Votto's deal is better for the Reds than the one the Tigers gave to Fielder, not as good as the Red Sox were able to get AGon for, and about the same as the Angels signed Pujols at.
