I think that he isn't going to get convicted. I don't, however, still believe what he did constitutes 'standing your ground'. I also hope that the final result of the whole thing is Florida looks at better defining their law. |

you're right here, but this post was quite some time ago, it wasn't in this particular zimmerman thread was it? anyway, I had seen the video of him coming in the police station, it didn't look like he had a broken nose. That's what I was going on, all I had at the time. I was wrong, I didn't think he did. it still doesn't change my opinion of what GZ did leading up to this point. Now... Maybe I'll just go get my 44 and go start some shit with someone because I think they look suspicious, then wait for that person so feel threatened enough to confront me, then mouth off to him, then wait to get hit so I can open fire...another coward with a gun This is exactly where we differ. You have to know I don't think this, I was being overzealous, comparing myself to GZ. I along with others feel that GZ pursuing TM was enough not to walk away free with no questions asked. Remember, in this period during the discussion GZ hadn't even been arrested. So please stop bring up the fact that I think GZ pursued TM because he wanted to kill him. I think he wanted to catch him doing something wrong, but not kill him. In no way do I think GZ was out looking to kill anyone. He did however kill an innocent teenager walking home from a gas station unarmed doing nothing. You put more credence in knowing TM was beating up GZ, so he had every right to kill him. I think GZ crossed a line when he got out of his vehicle and pursued TM, armed with a gun, after he had already alerted the police and they were on the way...period I'm not saying he "baited" him to kill him, I'm saying GZ pursuing him caused a confrontation that ended TM's life, OK. I already said that after we heard about the breakins I can understand GZ being suspicious. This really was the perfect storm of tragedies. Overzealous neighborhood watch captain spots a young black youth walking late at night in the rain. He follows him in his car. The young black youth turns out to be staying with his father at his fiances house and is talking to his girlfriend on his bluetooth walking home from a gas station with tea and candy, getting ready to watch the second half the of NBA all star game. He gets nervous because this guy is following him slowly in his truck, I think we can all see that could be a little unnerving, especially being in a new neighborhood. He ends up running away from the truck. Man gets out of the truck to pursue him...would GZ have gotten out of his truck if he didn't have a gun? He did get out, that's where I think the stand your ground law applies to TM, not GZ. Ok Aaron. There was no MASSIVE reversal, I have said over and over calling 911 and the police being on their way was as far as it should have gotten. If this isn't clear enough for you then oh well...what's it matter, my credibility is shot anyway...zimmerman had a broken nose, fuck unarmed innocent teenagers walking home from gas stations with tea and candy right. I think one thing that needs to be noted is that Zimmerman was NOT a Neighborhood Watch captain of any recognized program. Any group in a neighborhood obviously has the right to keep their eyes and ears out, but a national organization like Neighborhood Watch wants people to be the eyes and ears of the neighborhood but does not support members carry guns. |

a self proclaimed captain...I know he wasn't recognized as such and broke the rules of neighborhood watch protocal, but he was still acting on behalf of his neighbors as he drove around and called 911 once a week. I do think it's relevent but he was within his rights to do what he did, until he got out of his truck and became the aggressor. someone mentioned something about crying wolf. that explains GZ to a T |

Good post, Bliver, and thanks for admitting your initial take might have been wrong. I'm still a bit suspicious that GZ's injuries may have been over-stated, but let's wait and see the evidence and testimonies. |

I have no Problem with blivers current stance. It makes perfect sense to look at it as a matter of who started the physical confrontation, how, and why to determine fault. My problem has always been with the crazy conclusion jumping we saw from half the posters on here, which was reflective of the overall public and certainly the insane media. I don't like how gz handled the situation and he obviously has some paranoid vigellante tendencies, but so many people so quickly made the leap to racist black-hunting killer that it just turns my stomach. Its as sad as anything in the world that Martin had to lose his life, but to think that Gz wanted it that way and is in anyway happy that it happened is a co cousin based on emotion and hype, not logic and evidence |

Wow. Some real interesting stuff there. I still think this case comes down to the girlfriend's credibility as a witness against Zimmerman's. That's still the only inconsistency in the entire case. The flashlight was never mentioned before, but is shown in the photos. Certainly possible Martin couldn't see much if Zimmerman was shining that light in his face. Also could strengthen the possibility that Zimmerman was not ambushed, but rather was still actively pursuing Martin. |

If GZ hadn't jumped to conclusions, the whole matter is moot. |

http://openchannel.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/05/17/11748468-court-docs-trayvon-martin-shooting-ultimately-avoidable-by-zimmerman?lite Another police report indicated that Zimmerman, who is white and of Hispanic heritage, had called Sanford police on at least four previous occasions while residing in the Retreat at Twin Lakes gated community in Sanford, and in each case the “suspicious person” was a black male. At least they stay consistent. |

Martin had marijuana in his system that night. The defense will eat that alive. Both Martin's overall character will be in question as well as the probability of impaired judgement that evening. |

The recent breakins were done by young black men...stands to reason this becomes the physical description for suspicion in this case doesn't it? |

No, but while you can pin the incitement on the media, you can't pin the initial action to them. |

I have no idea where you are going with this, but of course the media had to have a story to start with. It doesn't change the fact that so many people jumped to insane conclusions. Do you feel that it was wrong for gz to profile Martin based on his skin color and draw conclusions as to his actions? Edited by Mr Gray, May 18 2012, 07:07 AM.
