Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

MrsJ, given that gz sustained multiple head injuries while tm only had wounds to his knuckles prior to the shooting, would you convict gz of 2nd degree murder?

Voluntary manslaughter.

How on earth could you boil the entire case down to that?

As a juror, unless there is an eyewitness to convince me otherwise, the injuries reported would make it very difficult for me to convict gz of 2nd degree murder.

Even though the charge is 2nd degree murder, I believe the jury can still convict Zimmerman of a lesser charge like Manslaughter. Just because you don't think there is enough evidence to convict on 2nd degree murder, doesn't mean Zimmerman won't be convicted at all.

I hope you are correct, because that may be the correct verdict. I apologize if that has already been discussed on this thread, and I missed it.

I know when I was on the jury for a murder trial, we were able to convict on a lesser charge (we convicted on involuntary manslaughter).

Hard to say without knowing what the evidence that will come in, if there is to be a trial. From what we know at this point, I probably would (I have not read up on what a 2nd degree murder charge consists of, in the eyes of the law). I believe Zimmerman initiated this entire event and that if anyone was standing their ground in this case, it was Trayvon.

I think that is similar to brum's contention on gz from the beginning

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

I do wonder if Zimmerman typically carried his fireman with him when not on patrolling the neighborhood. If not, it certainly backs the 'little hero' complex.
