Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

What's interesting is that, in Florida I wonder if Rodney King would have been able to shoot these cops and claim Stand Your Ground Law.

Not sure if anyone read the comments under the Rodney King video, but here are some quoted. I realize this is YouTube and there are idiots (and simply, kids) all over the country. Even so, there are positive comments as well and even excuses for why King was beaten for his actions that night. Not only that, but the Trayvon Martin story is starting to show up on this particular topic as well.

But in this day and age? Really?? Will one of "these people" be on the jury?

"Beat that dumb porch monkey....niggers"

"of being a worthless subhuman nigger"

"Beat that niggers ass"

"The only thing I hate more than niggers is cops."

"typical nig "

"dont break the law you wont get beat"

Racism is alive and well, always has been, no matter what public opinion might say. Just sickening.

I'm assuming that you acknowledge that racism isn't limited to white people.

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

Of course. It's everywhere.

But it makes you wonder in these particular cases what the outcome would have been had the roles been reversed. Perhaps Zimmerman was black, and Trayvon was white.

We'll never know, but I could give you an educated guess.

shooting out windows of cop cars is ok and justified?
Of course it's wrong, but if Zimmerman happens to be acquitted, shooting out a couple of windows will pale in comparison to what will ultimately go down.

That said, I realize he's up for murder in the 2nd, but I'm not sure what lesser charges are included at this point. Either way, if he walks out a free man, it probably won't just be the black community burning shit up. At this point, I think we're all sick of this nonsense.

maybe Martin did come back and confront him?? This trial is gonna be very interesting...
no...bliver has made it clear that the facts prove that Zimmerman baited and killed Martin.
yea, that's EXACTLY what I said

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/04/11/Obama-Prof-Flunks-Criminal-Law-at-Sharpton-Hate-Convention

Last month, the Tampa Bay Times compiled a list of 140 cases since 2005 in which the stand your ground law had been invoked in Florida alone. Among those 140 cases, the newspaper reported, there were 11 in which the circumstances were similar to those in which George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin.

One case from 2009 involved a black defendant, Demarro Battle, who was initially charged with second-degree murder for shooting and killing an unarmed white male, Omar Bonilla (whose race was confirmed today by the Fort Myers Police Department). The charges were dropped by the state because of the stand your ground law.

That is just one case, from one state among the several that have stand your ground laws.

I am not so sure you can compare this scenario to a teenager walking home with candy and soda:

Quote:

Defendant: Demarro Battle

Victim: Omar Bonilla

Case Details

Incident date: July 17, 2009

Location: During party at victim's home in Fort Myers, Lee County

What happened: Battle fatally shot Bonilla after an argument at a party. Earlier in the dispute, Bonilla had fired his gun into the ground and beat Battle in the head. Then Bonilla ran inside his apartment, gave his gun to a friend, telling him to hide it, and returned unarmed to confront Battle. Battle, meanwhile, had retrieved his gun from his car and fatally shot Bonilla.

The outcome: Battle was arrested by police and charged with second-degree murder. But charges were dropped by the state attorney. "Under current Florida law the defendant had no duty to retreat," assistant state attorney wrote. According to the Florida Rules of Criminal Procedure, prosecutors must file charges against a defendant within 33 days of an arrest. The state attorney wrote in a memo that there wasn't enough information available about whether Battle knew Bonilla wasn't armed when he walked back out of the house and what was said before the fatal shots were fired. Lee said the poor audio quality of witness statements taken at the police station makes it difficult to determine what happened in the "critical moments before the fatal shots were fired."

Fatalities: 1

Weapon: gun

Investigating agency: Fort Myers Police

With all due respect, and because I want to drink my beer in peace tonight, Colt wasn't comparing "events" as I saw it. He was comparing the issue of race in a broader circumstance of who's being charged in a similar crimes/non crimes, however it comes down and the ultimate results.

And one more thing, it's called "pop" in southern Indiana, not soda, no matter how many times I tell you.

I see a couch in your near future sleeping assignments if this behavior continues Jaz.

"Liberal, shmiberal. That should be a new word. Shmiberal: one who is assumed liberal, just because he's a professional whiner in the newspaper. If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed

I know, I can see it too. However, it's much more attractive with the beer goggles on.

I was talking about the situations that lead up to these deaths. To me, they are not similar at all.

Shooting in the ground and hitting them in the head is far more threatening than a man walking down the street. In my opinion.
