Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Bump

With the Zimmerman trial coming up in June, I was just curious if any of you will be following it. As an avid trial watcher, I'll definitely DVR it and watch it in the evenings or late at night. Just curious to see the discussion shift from a somewhat speculative view (what we know from the media) to the actual trial evidence itself.

As we know, circumstantial evidence can sometimes be left up for interpretation for one to use one's common sense, vs hard core physical evidence which obviously doesn't lie.

I'm guessing the trial will last a good 2 months if not longer and Zimmerman getting hung with a second degree murder charge.

unless there is new information out there being hid from the public, he walks....I just don't know how they can prove that he wasn't attacked by TM as he says he was.
I was pre-law in college, but must admit that I don't know Florida-specific criminal law or what the "stand your ground" laws implications are here. However, much of the trial will probably be predicated on Zimmerman's decisions and behavior before and after the murder... which I don't know much about, either. My guess is that the prosecution will paint Zimmerman as an untruthful, bigoted murderer and the defense will try to paint Martin as a misguided youth with a history of substance use that had attempted to harm Zimmerman. At the end of the day, usually the prosecution is able to make a pretty compelling argument in cases like this so my guess is Zimmerman will definitely serve some time.

If I had time I'd read more about it, but that's just my two cents from a really high level.
Death to Signatures.

I don't remember what he was charged with but I do seem to remember that I thought it was more likely he'd be convicted of a lesser charge. Not sure whether that would be jail time or not, but I do think he'll be convicted of something.

If I remember right, he's charged with second degree murder, not sure what the lessers include.

If it's in Florida and California, the O.J. Simpson and Casey Anthony trials have already established that murder is legal....so it doesn't matter if he is guilty or not, he walks.

"Liberal, shmiberal. That should be a new word. Shmiberal: one who is assumed liberal, just because he's a professional whiner in the newspaper. If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed

It's interesting that Obama's die-hard base thought OJ was innocent.

lol, anyone seen Zimmerman lately? Hiding out and not being able to go anywhere has taken it's toll on him. For his sake, hopefully the extra weight bodes him well in prison against inmates that prey on child murderers.

The man has been convicted of nothing but yet is called a "child murderer"?? We go out of our way to give terrorists a fair trial yet, in some people's minds, this guy is guilty no matter what because a gun was involved? Truly sad...

On the contrary, when the the prosecution reads off Trayvon's weight, there will be a huge discrepancy between the two. Even though Zimmerman didn't weigh that much, that's who the jury sees. I'm not sure it will help.

Not that random I was going to comment on that as well... I wouldn't consider him a child murderer even if he is convicted, maybe a juvenile murderer... and even at the many 17 year old kids are tried as adults... "child murderer" I guess we know who Jaz is rooting for lol

My bad. I actually missed the "child murderer" comment by Jaz. Just thought that came out of nowhere.
