Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I don't have the link, but I've seen/heard rumors about the MLB implementing a replay system for next year's season. Personally, I've been waiting for decades.

The Jim Joyce debacle last year (runner called safe to rob a perfect game) was the clincher IMO, it's time for Major League Baseball to get with the program.

Definitely for it, but as I consistently do with basketball referees, I'm not going to sit here and harp about what an awful job they're doing like some people like to do (not you, Jaz).

There are times when they are less than 100 feet away from the batter and have a hard object coming at them over 100 MPH. They have a split-second to try and get out of the way while simultaneously making a correct call. Not to mention all of the bang-bang plays whether it be at first, home, trapped balls in the outfield, calls on stolen bases....it's a damn difficult job.

With that being said, technology is ready available and it could be done quickly, so why not use it?

Every sport should do it like the NHL does. The fact that we have an NFL referee go off the field for 3 minutes to peer into a 5 inch screen is nothing short of ridiculous. If there's a question about a goal, hockey solves it in 30 seconds.

How does hockey do it? I have no idea.

Replay official in an upstairs booth reviews anything the ref asks for replay on. The ref on the ice does not view any replay. He is simply told what the result is. Oftentimes the replay official is viewing replays before the ref even asks.

Definitely for it. How about balls and strikes? Using the computer for close tennis calls works great.

The computer could call all balls and strikes with the ump would be there to make the cool hand gestures.

How about balls and strikes?

I'm all for it, and have been for a couple of decades now. My proposal is, and always has been, as silly as it would have sounded in 1995, is to put a small electronic "chip" of some sort in the player's/batter's uniform; one at the knees, and one under the shoulder blades, along with installing the "chips" along the perimeter of home plate -- ala the strike zone when the player is batting.

Each player is of different size, therefore the strike zone obviously changes from batter to batter. The home plate umpire obviously has to be there to call a play at the plate, but in terms of balls and strikes, can hold a "hand held device" that receives the results from the pitch, and accordingly makes the call on balls and strikes. Hell, this even takes both entities off the hook of a "wrong call".

Can't argue with technology, at least not it in this day and age.

Fuck the human element, which I know the purist (which, ironically I consider myself one) will scream and bitch about, but I've been around long enough to see umpires/referees strip a whole season from a team that should have "been there".

It's time to get it right, including the MLB.

Sounds good to me. The chips need to be exposed to eliminate the ability to cheat.

As soon as the players figure out how to stick a needle in the chip we will be at square one again.

In all seriousness tho, I would think that there could be some kind of "laser" system or something to tell when the ball passes thru a particular zone/plane? With the tech we have, they can do just about anything they want.

I'm fine with the umpires calling balls and strikes. I'd be more for replay on bang-bang plays, regardless if they're scoring plays or not.

Guess I've been around a little longer and have seen way too much to give the umps some leeway, especially calling balls and strikes. I remember this game (1997 NLCS) like it was yesterday.

All you could do was laugh.

IMO, if the purists want the human element to stay in the game, then as a human being, we all make mistakes. Man up and admit you (umps) were wrong, and do the right thing and change the call.

AT LEAST.

For those who insist on the "human element", the laser system could be programmed to blow a call once or twice very game.

Where did you find that video? I've looked for that before. Kevin Gregg I believe his name is, that fat fucking piece of shit. I think I speak for all Braves fans when I say he is dead to me. If he is homeless and starving, I'd throw away my fries before I gave them to him. If his head was on fire, I wouldn't piss on it. If his.....well, I think you get the idea.

I was young, really young in fact, and I was so pissed off after that game, I could hardly think straight. Like you, I will never forget that game, and for all the wrong reasons.
