Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

No reason for lahair to be on the team.
He is listed as a 1B on the all star team. Who else should have went?
I'm a cubs fan. I'm happy for lahair, it's pretty cool, just dont think he's having an all star season. Just m opinion. Personally I agree with dreach I'd put goldschmidt in.

All of you are leaving out Adam LaRoche, who is on pace to hit 30+ homers, around 40 doubles, slug over .500, and have 100+ rbis.

Have to remember that LaHair also only has 211 at bats because he sits against lefties....38 at bats all year against them and has only three hits and one rbi against lefties. The other guys in question aren't platoon players.

Gotta have a backup 1B. Not really anyone else to have except for LaHair.
Really? Paul Goldschmidt? Allen Craig?

I don't have a big problem with LaHair being chose. It's Castro that shouldn't be on the team. Yeah, he's hitting 300, but his on base percentage is 316. That's pathetic. I'd rather Jed Lowrie, Jose Reyes, or Rafael Furcal over Castro.
Goldshmidt BA .292 .367 OBP 11HR 35 RBIs

LeHair .284 BA .364 OBP 13 HRs 28 RBIs

Craigs stats are great but he hasnt played half the season
Other things to consider:

Fangraphs has no first baseman in the national league who has cost their team more runs in the field.

30% of Corey Hart's starts have been at first base and he could easily have been picked.

LeHair is 8th in WAR among NL first baseman.

Batting average....how cute.

But if you want to look at the 'traditional stats', tell me which player you prefer -- both of whom hit in the traditional power positions.

Player a: .284 with 27 home runs and 57 rbis.
Player b: .251 with 32 home runs and 105 rbis.

And if you go with 'batting average', then let's discuss LaHair's .137 average with runners in scoring position (LaRoche is hitting .271).

Allen Craig better than both of them.

ya getting on base means nothing in baseball

for that guy driving in 20 more runs a year, SOMEONE had to get on base in front of him.

LOL @ sirbrian. Here is a guy that says wins by a pitcher is over rated because its dependent on what someone else does and wants to know what their RBIs are?
