Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I personally have to problem with baseball's All-Star game. Out of the major sports, it's by far the best to watch for me. I've never had the feeling that players were loafing like in the NBA and NFL.

I can see why people would criticize the decision to tie home-field advantage into it, but as far as the game itself goes, I look forward to watching it every year.

I used to love the AS Game. In fact, I would take my vacation time (each year) during the week of the HR Derby and AS Game itself. No wife, no distractions. Would drink beer all day and grill out by myself, with all the pre-game stuff on the tv.

I think my turning point was when Selig called the game in 2002 due to a 7-7 tie in the 11th inning, and then went on to incorporate the ridiculous idea of WS home field advantage to the winner of the AS Game.

Strictly my opinion, some may like the idea. I don't and never have.

Home field advantage is awfully gimmicky. I'm not a huge fan of it, but I get why they do it.

That year the tie happened really pissed me off too. I didn't watch 3 1/2 hours of baseball for a tie to be called. Ugh.

I've always been under the impression that Selig and Co. implemented that rule to get the players/teams to actually put out the effort to win.

I've never looked into it, to be honest, because this rule broke the camel's back for me. I loved the realignment in '94 and the addition of the Wildcard team. Not so sure yet about two WC teams.

It stemmed from the tie game right? I think he realized how many people were pissed off about that so he did something over the top in an attempt to rectify the situation.

I like the AS game but I agree about how lame the "tie" was. The home field advantage thing doesn't make much sense to me either. But, I do agree with obat...of all the all-star games across the leagues, MLB does theirs best. It's actual baseball. The players actually try to win.

Although, what I most dislike about the game is that the players are voted into the roster for the most part.

Definitely agree there, although voting is fun for the fans so I don't think that's going away anytime soon.

Some of the selections are almost embarrassing though. Dan Uggla has been absolutely pathetic the last month and he's now hitting around .220. Meanwhile you have guys like Phillips and Aaron Hill who are much more worthy sitting at home.

Haha. And Tim Tebow as the home plate ump.

Berman - "And there's a play at the plate!.....The ump hasn't made a call yet..."
Tebow - "Can't we all just be safe by abstaining from sex until marriage?"

Any thoughts on the game? I only got to see the last inning but it appears that the NL pitching was pretty effective......does anyone have a firsthand account??

Kinda boring really. NL got out to a huge lead and never looked back. AL had their chances (believe bases were loaded against Kershaw), but couldn't ever get a clutch hit.

Team of the game was the Giants. Melky won MVP, Sandoval had a 3-run triple I believe and Cain pitched well.

Kimbrel didn't get a chance to strike anyone out, but I guess that's not necessarily a bad thing.

And now Ortiz is out of the dugout, he has Tom Brady's back.

Berman: "Obviously, I am unable to read Big Papi's lips....."
