Don't understand this one....I'm not a big Collison fan, but they traded Collison and Dahntay Jones to Dallas for backup center Ian Mahinmi. Mahinmi is definitely servicable and a nice rebounder, but it's a head scratcher then why they would have drafted Plumlee. They are said to be talking to the Bobcats about D.J. Augustin, someone who I like less than Collison. Point guard IMO is their biggest point where they could upgrade....George Hill and D.J. Augustin sharing that spot doesn't scream deep playoff run. |

With that 5 year deal with Hill, the Pacers basically committed to him being their starting PG going forward. I'm not sure Collison would have dealt with that very well, and he only has a year left on his contract. I think they figured he was going to walk after next season anyways. |

“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves." "I’d take him to the ends of the earth — I’d want him playing for me.” - Bo Ryan on Robbie Hummel

It certainly wasn't a money saving venture....and they signed Mahinmi to a four year, $16 million deal to basically be a better version of Plumlee. Hill is not a prototypical point guard. He's never averaged 3 assists per game. Again, but given the make-up of the Pacers they don't have the superstars that would allow them to get by with a George Hill at point guard. I don't know that D.J. Augustin (if they get him) coupled with Hill is better than Collison/Hill....guess it all depends on how much the Bobcats organization brought him down. |

Green is an interesting one. Out of the NBA for over two seasons, he came back last year with the Nets and put together a nice season....13 points in 26 minutes per game on 48% shooting. He's a very nice athletic swingman when his head is on straight and should contribute off the bench. Still not an Augustin fan, but he's more of a pass first player than Collison and maybe that's what they wanted. |

I think it's a lateral move. I do like Mahinmi as a backup option behind Hibbert. I like Collison a little bit more than Augustin because I think Collison has a higher ceiling, but their production has been about the same. |

Pacers turned Collison (who was going to walk anyways) into a reasonably priced backup big man that brings some value for the next 4 seasons. Then they got a backup PG about equal to Collison for this coming season. Nothing great, but they needed to get something out of Collison and Mahimni is reasonable. |

Yes, Mahinmi is definitely an upgrade over Louis Amundson and it allows them to avoid the time during the game where they would play Hansborough in the middle. I just think the easiest way they could improve to make a longer playoff run was to get better point guard play....I'm just not sure that bringing in Augustin gives them a better chance to do so than taking a chance that Collison starts to play more to his potential. |

I agree that getting something out of Collison was a great move, but I still don't understand the Plumlee pick when Mahimi is probably better. I still wanted either Will Barton or Perry Jones instead of Plumlee. |
