Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Clary wins Gold in 200 backstroke. Lochte led the whole race but got beat in the final 25 by Clary and Irie to finish 3rd. Congrats to Clary. He swam a fantastic semi and I thought he might pull out the win.

BTW, some of you might find this interesting...

On ESPN radio at lunch on the Hill & Schlereth show, they were saying that each American gets $25k for a gold medal, 15k for silver, and 10k for bronze.
That's an awful small payout IMO...considering how much work is involved, and that an entire nation is rooting for them. Especially for those in individual events.

Hell, the gold medal prize isn't even the average yearly income for Americans...

I didn't have a problem with that, actually.

yes and no. It is not that much different than a swimmer only swimming hard enough to qualify for the finals, but not swimming balls out. Something about not playing to win strikes me wrong though.

"Liberal, shmiberal. That should be a new word. Shmiberal: one who is assumed liberal, just because he's a professional whiner in the newspaper. If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed

On the fence; I see the strategy about it, but it certainly is outside the Olympic spirit. Apparently the fans there were pissed off and jeering the players, which looks awful as well. Not surprised the higher-ups decided to take a stand.

I think the problem is with the setup that can reward players for losing, not with the players attempting to put themselves in the best position possible to win. The structure of the event is at fault here, not the players.

Phelps beats Lochte for 200IM Gold. Was nice to see the US go 1 and 2!

Missy got off to a terrible start and just couldn't recover in time. Nice run by her though. She finished 5th but made up a lot of ground to even get there.

100M Free I see. She wasn't expected to contend for gold in that, was she?

I think she was expected to compete for a medal. If she had gotten off the blocks better she would have been competing for gold and I think would have easily medaled.

Pretty good day for the Stars and Stripes in the pool though.
