Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

so, saw luke play tonite in the state semis (not live, but saw him play).

here's what i took away:

1 - better hands, not even close, than 2 (maybe 3) of this year's recruits
2 - not overly athletic, but looks to get position, uses body
3 - sees the floor fairly well from the post regarding kicking out to shooters
4 - played smart, didn't pick up any stupid/cheap fouls
5 - will need to adjust to pace of BIG game and bulk up
6 - shooting wise seems to be cody-esque... i.e. not going to really look to shoot outside of 3-5 feet, but then demonstrates a nice stroke from the line
7 - plays for a good team. take from that what you will
8 - looks to quickly release the ball to guards on the break after every rebound

summation: if he plays big minutes next year we're maybe in trouble. but, there are tools there to be developed for sure. and wouldn't be surprised if he jumps hanner and jurkin in the pecking order...good basketball IQ

Not sure why Bo Ryan didn't go all out for him....he's the exact type of player that he wants.

Why would we be in big trouble? If Cody leaves, then I expect Fischer to play big minutes next year. Besides Hanner, who else would there be?

first, i said big minutes...not big trouble.

and of course it all depends how things shake down...but i just didn't get the impression of luke as a first year big minutes guy. a role player for sure...without question. maybe my expectations re too high...but i'd like us to compete for the BIG title again next year. and if you told me now the starting 5 will be yogi, will, jeremy, noah and luke...well, i think we make the tourney fine and all...but i don't see a top 2 finish in conference.

Thanks for sharing. Haven't had a chance to see him play yet, so I appreciate the scouting report.

I see your point and agree, but who in the world would want to play under that coach, in that system? Can't blame Fischer at all. Glad he'll be a Hoosier. The fact they were able to get Dekker shocks me.

I'm with you, veech. I've been on the Fischy bandwagon for a while now, but I'm really excited to have him coming to Btown. When all is said and done, Bo Ryan will be kicking himself for letting him get away.

Interesting fact: Luke is a big volleyball player. Whenever you watch him play basketball, he does a really good job of going straight up on block attempts.

I think he's saying Indiana would be in trouble because he thinks Luke Fischer isn't going to be ready to be an impact player from day 1 and he's probably going to be asked to play a lot early.
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

That would worry me a bit normally, but I think this was a case of Indiana doing its work early and getting involved heavily before anybody else really had a chance.

And while he's a good prospect, I don't think he's the type of guy you waste time on if you think he's leaning elsewhere.

Apparently he is. The Wisky staff was wasting time on him after he verbally committed to IU.

"It really doesn't bother me too much," Fischer said during an interview Tuesday at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee. "I never really felt like Wisconsin would be a good fit for me after I started getting recruiting by other schools.

"The slow pace that they're at, being that (we're) high-tempo here (in Germantown) made me think about what I would want to play in college, and Indiana just seemed to fit that perfectly."

Well, we all know there's a chance Zeller and VO are gone after this year, so I wouldn't set my expectations too high.

If Zeller leaves early, Fischer and Hanner will split time picking up the minutes left from Zeller. Hollowell and Vonleh will help pick up some of the scoring left from Zeller and VO leaving, but the key word is help. The scoring will have to be picked up by Sheehey and Yogi and it really scares me that we have to depend on Sheehey being our number 1 or 2 option. That guy has not been shooting well from outside since the B1G season started. I don't have the exact stats for B1G play, but overall he shoots 49.8% and 35.5% from 3 pt range. Like most everyone's elses stats, his are skewed from our pre-conference schedule. I bet his 3 point percentage in the B1G is 25% or less. (Brum chime in with the percentage anytime.) That said, he will have to improve a great deal for us to finish in the top 5 in the B1G and make the dance. With all that said, I feel Yogi will increase his scoring considerably and is capable of doing it more than Sheehey will be.

But with the possible loses, this team will most likely be a middle of the road type team and could end up on the bubble, unless Vonleh is a real stud and he could be. He is rated high enough and Hollowell maybe capable as well. Needless to say, next year will be intereting.

This year is the year for this team to reach the final 4 and possilbly win it.
