Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I'm young enough to where I don't really know this to be factual with IU basketball, but I guess it just comes with part the territory of being a top-tier team.

By and large, when you think of the teams that are the most hated and get the most criticism (Yankees, Red Sox, Cowboys, Duke, Lakers, USC football), they're virtually all very successful on the field.

Its funny, I actually think by and large people from all over college basketball like your players (sans maybe Sheehey) and the style of play that Indiana has played most of the season. After every game, there are going to be a few nutjob fans on websites saying stupid things. And a lot of those nutjobs will continue to say them over and over again.

We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

I'm by no means an old timer, but I vaguely remember watching IU win the 1981 championship, I was 6 at the time. I most certainly remember watching them win the 1987 championship. I graduated HS in 1993, so the teams of the early 90's were my fav. During that era, with Bob Knight as your coach...yea, we were hated on from time to time. Because of Coach Knight, many people just loved to hate IU.

Even most people who have any kind of basketball knowledge would tell you Sheehey is the guy you hate, but would absolutely love to have on your team. Kind of like Kramer at Purdue, although most of my friends that went to Purdue disliked him from personal interactions.

I really like Sheehey as a player. I could do without the posing and the fact that he seems to think he's never fouled anybody in his life, but he's never really done anything major to make me dislike him. He's just a tad annoying sometimes.

As much as I don't like to admit it, this years Indiana team has a bunch of guys I like. I just hope they don't go and win a title lol

I dont view what happened between him and Zeller as dirty... he leaned into Zeller and Zeller fell but nothing dirty about it, IMO
What was the point of leaning into him in that situation?
I dont think it was to knock him down. McGary is a BIG guy, he came in at 250. That's not a lot more than Zeller. That being said, when he leaned into Zeller, they were getting to that point where they were going to put a body on each other <somewhere around the FT line> so he may have been prepping to fight for position. I think more than anything Zeller lost his balance but I can't say McGary pushed him down on purpose.
Calling it like I saw it, Zeller went down awfully easy there. McGary fouled him, no doubt. But he didn't really push him or throw a hip or anything. It was a body bump on the way down the court. Don't think there was enough to send Zeller flying to the floor like he did.
Sure Zeller went flying, but that is really no different the players flying backwards trying to draw a charge after taking a shoulder to the chest, which literally happens all the time. Not sure why Zeller is getting crap for it.
Never laid into him, just saying he flopped.

This is like the third or fourth time people have gotten all riled up and claimed this title of "hated" with pride. I don't get it. This is so far from a hated team. I was just talking to a coworker and saying that while I really don't want IU to win the title, I'm kinda pulling for them just cause I like the players, especially Oladipo. It's embarrassing, and I try not to think about it too much, but this is an enjoyable team to watch.

Why are so many people so anxious to be hated?

I'll agree with you on that second part. I don't think this team is hated around the country and I really have no desire to be hated. I think with our current status we've seen big ten fans scrutinize us much more closely and rival fans looking for any excuse to spout off about the team. It feels like we're getting far more hate than we actually are because those fans are in our face, vocal, and have been all season.

If you go to other Big Ten message boards, the vocal reactionaries -- Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State, Illinois, and honestly, to a lesser extent Purdue (mostly Boiled Sports, where every other article seems to be about how despicable Crean is), have a lot of hatred. But that IMO mostly comes from a team doing well and it's something I'd expect to see other teams get in the same situation.

If your team gets to a point where they are hated, it does mean you are successful. No one hates Penn State basketball. I'm sure as heck not going to deny that a lot of hatred I have toward Kentucky is their success.

I think it's more Crean than the players, 'cept Sheehey. Zeller gets some but that's just because of a few recent events. I think he is generally well respected, at least by those who know basketball.

Count me in as well as one who doesn't understand why some want to be hated.

That's the way I feel. I'm not a big fan of Crean, but the team itself? I lean positive.

False.

I hate Penn State basketball.

Can't stand them. Can't stand the way Frazier plays. I think Colella is really annoying for some reason.
