Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

It wasn't all roses and champagne in the game yesterday. Here are a few thoughts I had during and afterwards.

1) The unnecessary help defense (mostly by Yogi) really hurt us. Several times Burke was driving to the hoop or along the baseline, had nowhere to go, and Yogi pinched way too far down, leaving his man wide open for a 3. Eventually Hulls got furious and blew up at someone (may have been Abel). I would've liked to see them stop doing that after the first time it happened, definitely after the 2nd time. Crazy that it happened at least 3 times.

2) The intentional foul. What do you guys think? Here's how I broke it down.
On the "yes it was" side - I had that it was a breakaway. No effort to get the ball. Watford was behind him.
On the "no it wasn't" side - I had that Watford didn't grab him at all (a hallmark of these breakaway intentional fouls). I don't think he pushed him even though his hand was on the back. He clearly swiped at the arm without grabbing. Those type of fouls happen all the time.
Overall, besides getting beat in the first place, I thought Watford did as good a job as he could on that foul. A hard slap to the shooting arm is tough to call intentional, even if it was from behind on a breakaway. Honestly, I could've seen it either way and wouldn't have begrudged the refs had they called an intentional there.

3) Last game it was a case of the butter fingers and bad passing, this game it was missing about 1000 layups. Some really fundamental stuff that has come so easy to us for most of the season. I actually feel encouraged that they can't continue to do fuck this stuff up when they normally do it as well as any team in the country.

4) Thought Watford played really poorly. Not getting him good looks on offense is one thing, but he got lost several times on defense. He needs to be better, and he has been for the rest of the season. I have confidence he'll bounce back.

5) Major kudos to Sheehey and Hollowell. They both played really well.

6) Rebounding. Holy toledo. Talk about dominating. I haven't seen something like that from us in a long time.

7) Our road resume is as good as I've ever seen it. Pretty amazing considering we hardly played anyone on the road in pre-con.

8) I don't want to hear about Michigan's free throw shooting. Zeller and Sheehey both missed the front ends of 1-1s. You can't just count their free throws because they missed them late in the game. If anything, you expect pressure to make free throws more difficult and so our missed FTs were even more inexcusable.

Overall just a fantastic season. To top it off with a tooth and nails victory like that is really special.

Positives: Hustle was great. Cody in the last 8 minutes was the Cody I've been wanting to see for a few months. Hollowell looked more confident and played well. Reboundi g was awesome and in part a product of hustle. Will played within himself and let the game come to him. Vic is Vic.

Negatives: holding onto timeouts like they are a long lost loved one while UM was on a 15-3 run. Bizarre 1st half substitutions. Watford wanting to create off the dribble in the 1st half...not his game. Zeller the same for a while. Man to man full court pressure from Yogi on Burke...only going to make yogi more tired than he needs to be and serves no purpose.

Overall, I liked what I saw. I really hope they keep that fierceness heading into post season play. If these guys could always be the underdog, we'd all be happy happy happy.

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.
