  • Game # 34: (16) James Madison vs. (1) Indiana Game Thread
Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

So far, my AWAR has been way off on the A-10. They are now 6-0 in the tourney.

Just food for thought....no Indiana Hoosier has ever had a triple double. Yogi is at 14/7/3.
Steve Downing? 28pts 17 rebounds and 10 blocks.

"As strange as it might sound, no Indiana player has ever recorded a triple-double."

I'm not saying that Downing didn't have those numbers....but I believe back when he played, blocked shots were not an official stat.
Maybe, but according to this under All-Americans

STEVE DOWNING - 1973
Steve Downing’s totals in his first big college game were 28 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 blocked shots, Indiana’s only recorded triple-double. His career continued as it started with Downing becoming the first All-American under Coach Bob Knight. Overcoming a knee injury, Downing led the Hoosiers to a Big Ten title in his final season, averaging 21.8 points in nonconference play and 14.7 during the Big Ten season. He averaged 24 points per game in the Hoosiers’ last eight conference games. The conference champions were led by Downing in the quest for the NCAA title but fell short, losing 70-59 to UCLA in the Final Four. Downing was named All-Final Four, Big Ten MVP and chosen as the Boston Celtics’ No. 1 draft pick. He won an NBA Championship with the Celtics in 1974.

"Liberal, shmiberal. That should be a new word. Shmiberal: one who is assumed liberal, just because he's a professional whiner in the newspaper. If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed

You are right. Added blocks and steals as official stats in 85-86

Yeah....so I should say it would be Indiana hasn't had any 'official' triple doubles.

The one problem with going back and giving Downing a triple double is that things like assists and blocked shots is that they are often subjective....and for the sake of making something more legendary than it was, they often err on the side of embelishment.

There's good Will Sheehey! Bringing the energy on the offensive glass...
Worst guy on the tube. He may have known NBA but he is clueless when it comes to college hoops and embarrasses himself whenever he opens his mouth. Total idiot
You referencing Sheehey here?
OOPS Not good, I meant to follow up the Barkley comment. OH well, blame it on my advanced age

BTW, it was a long, long time before the NCAA even distinguished offensive and defensive rebounds as separate stats.

At least Illinois making a good showing....up 34-21 on Colorado. I'd like to say I'm upset about Wisky laying an egg, but I can't say that I am.

I realize who we're playing, but our ball movement sure has been impressive so far.
