Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Schools across Indiana are cutting back the hours of teacher assistants, bus drivers, cafeteria workers and other aides to avoid having to offer them health insurance under the federal health care employer mandate that begins next year.

"We cannot go out and raise the price of our product to assist us covering this. We would have to go the taxpayers and ask for some type of increase and I just don't see that happening," said Les Huddle, superintendent of the Lafayette School Corporation.

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

It is sad. It's happening at my school as well.

But it does seem to me that there has been quite a contingent of people on this board that want schools run like a business. How would this be any different? Are you willing to pay more in state taxes or local referendum to keep the insurance in place?

It's absolutely the right call by the school system. They really have no choice. I was more pointing out the unintended consequences of forcing employers to provide benefits. Looks like a great idea on paper.

not sure if you are being sarcastic or not, but you are 100% correct. Communism would be the perfect form of government if all people were essentially identical. I reality, however, it is hard for even the smallest of groups to work out a system like this for any sustainable time frame.

Family farms are a great example of this, where the immediate family is often able to create a quasi communist system for the farm within the family, where each person is contributing nearly the same amount of effort, and even though their productivity varies based on talent, skills, strength...etc, they are rewarded equally. Now, take that same scenario and go out just one level to an extended family, and you see it completely break down where some people aren't contributing, some people feel that they deserve more...etc etc, until the family has no choice but to end the attempt and break the farm back into smaller units.

I'm all for it, as long as I'm one of the leaders, and can bilk the rest of the members to advance my personal quality of life.

Spend a few minutes looking around the world, and then come back here and explain to us how bad our system is.

We aren't the only democracy in the world. Take a microsecond and look for yourself.

Don't blame me because you got caught making a statement about communism that applies to this country in an incredible manner.

To be fair, the United States are not a democracy.

Which would make my point even more true.
