Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I don't consider myself racist in the least, but I do have to admit, if I'm at an ATM late at night, and two black teenagers were standing behind me (perhaps waiting to use the ATM), I would find myself watching my back more than I would as opposed to two white teenagers. Maybe it's ignorance on my part mostly because I've grown up in a small town that is predominantly white -- I really don't know. I lived most of my teenage years in south Texas, and would feel the same way if they were Mexican teenagers.

I don't know the racial makeup of this board, and I really don't care, I'm just being as honest as I was when I started the "alcoholic" thread.

That said, I've dated black women and Mexican women, and have had many minority friends during my lifetime. When I think about it, I'm confused as fuck.

I think most people have the same feelings, even black people using an ATM. Like Bernard Goldberg said, you're not supposed to ever say this out loud. :D

To be quite honest, it took me a few minutes to decide whether to post this or not. I've undergone quite a change after shucking the booze, and to this point, pure, raw honesty has been soul cleansing.

Not only that, but the Zimmerman incident has really opened up a new chapter between the racial divide, and there seems to be that honesty surrounding the whole situation.

It's good I think.

I think I'd be nervous if any 2 males that I didn't know we're behind me at the ATM.....al little more if they were black? Maybe. But I don't think that makes anyone racist. I believe that some of the current African American population still holds disdain towards white people.....therefore I don't believe being a little nervous makes you racist, it means you are aware of today's racial climate in this country.

If Aaron was a personal friend or acquaintance, after I found out he was Pro-Life I wouldn't discuss abortion with him. No need to lose a friend over personal beliefs like this. However, on an internet chat board, I also find it somewhat soul cleansing to be honest about complicated subjects that are rarely discussed in person.

One of my friends is married to a black woman, and we have had these discussions before. Late nights at the dining room table.

Very, very interesting.

I wouldn't say that I would be any more or less scared of teenagers based on their color....there are characteristics of whites, blacks, hispanics and others that would impact how I felt about them approaching me....such as the way they are acting, what they are wearing, neck tattoos...etc. Now, that being said, in my experience, black teens seem to exhibit those types of characteristics more often than white kids.

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

I believe it was Chris Rock that said he wasn't looking for black people at night while using the ATM, he was looking for ni**ers. But also mentioned if he got on an elevator with two white teenagers, he'd run the fuck out of there. They scare the shit out of him.

I think we're more the same than a lot of people think.

May be one of the best scenes from any movie ever. Samuel l Jackson kinda sets the standard for badass mother fuckers.

I think it boils down to relatability. If you ride-up to a bar full of bikers on your Harley, you probably will feel less nervous than if you show-up in a Prius. The bikers in the bar haven't changed in the equation, but your perception of their perception has left you uncomfortable.

Likewise, if you're a white middle-age male wearing a polo shirt, the relatability to a black teenage male wearing a t-shirt is pretty slim. But, what if you have your black friend with you? It probably makes you feel less nervous. The other individual didn't change, but now you have some relatability.
