Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

As a teacher, I can tell you the first thought I have if two black teenagers are behind me is "crap....teenagers."

Interesting story. My wife ran the ICU at a hospital here several years ago. Cardiac problems and meth go hand in hand and some guy who had been arrested while high on meth was taken to her ICU. The doctors had put him out for a bit, and while he was resting somebody opened the window to get him some air(which only opened 7 inches). The ICU was in the 6th floor tower. Well Joe meth head came to while no one was aroundi in his room, he decided he did not want to go back into police custody when the hospital let him out and he could see the cop near the elevator. He decided to go out the window and fell on to the roof of the lobby 4 stories below. He severely broke both legs and his hip... They never could figure out how he got out the window.

"Liberal, shmiberal. That should be a new word. Shmiberal: one who is assumed liberal, just because he's a professional whiner in the newspaper. If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed

Wasn't avoiding the question. I'm not afraid of people due to their skin color. Their circumstance in life is what raises red flags for me.

Interesting true story that happened to me and my little brother back in the summer of 1978. We had moved to Texas in February of that year (I was 12, he was 9), and a couple of months later went to the first public swimming pool that we could find. The town was much larger than we were used to -- 250,000 people as opposed to 5,000, so everything we did, it seemed, was a much larger, new experience.

The area we lived in was a mix of whites and mexicans, no black people that I ever saw, but when my mom dropped us off at the pool and we went in, everyone there was black. Me and my brother were the only two white people there -- including the lifeguards.

Just kids, we never thought a thing about it. I noticed it, but not a single thought crossed my mind except getting into that water.

The first thing we did was head to the high dive. I climbed up first, my brother behind me. When I walked to the edge of the board, EVERY SINGLE KID GOT OUT OF THE SWIMMING POOL AND SAT ON THE SIDE. There had to be 100 kids in that pool. I was thinking WTF?? Strange thing is, not a single one looked at me. Just went about there business talking and playing with each other, sitting on the ledge of the pool. I was up there, so I went ahead and jumped in. Same thing when my brother went in the water.

When we got out, I told him just to go and sit on our towels. As we headed back to where we had set our stuff, everyone jumped back in the water. In fact, not a single person would look me in the eye.

As a 12 year old child, I was totally confused. My brother was a little oblivious to what had just happened and wanted to get back in the water, but I told him not to, that we should try going off the boards again, I wanted to make sure I saw what I saw.

We did -- same thing happened. I called my mom and she picked us up after that. Over the years I have thought about this many times, and could never really figure it out. I never once felt threatened or in danger, just very, very confused.

Brum, please chime in with the statistics on this topic.

If I was at an ATM and two black men in suits came up behind me, I wouldn't think twice, and would be much more afraid of two white youth with tattoos and attitudes. Growing up in the mid-west, most of the black men you see will tend to look scarier than the average white guy.

If you ever want to see how low we are as a society, pick some random youtube video and read the comments.

The anonymity of the Internet brings out the worst, that's for sure.

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.
