Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Has there ever been a thread in the course of the political board history that stayed one straight and narrow course?

So we've jumped from individuals to single mothers to married couples? Is this thread even about anything?
You made a comment about single income families and Bri simply said that is becoming less common. I don't see where the thread has veered off in some crazy direction because of this.

Agree. That said, prostate cancer is a huge killer among older men.

"Liberal, shmiberal. That should be a new word. Shmiberal: one who is assumed liberal, just because he's a professional whiner in the newspaper. If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed

I brought up single income families?

This thread started about minimum wage workers. Brian threw in "single mothers" and then brought "single income family" into the discussion. You need to glance back over the last couple pages...

Sorry it was Lars's post that Bri was responding to. And I'm not insinuating anything by who brought it up. Just saying I don't think it has derailed the conversation at all.

You missed this part of his post "someone in group Y that is a stay at home parent (spouse works) has an associates degree and decides that part of their time is worth $9 but wasn't work $7.75."

Then don't respond to posts about hat. It's easier to do that than be the thread police.

Gotta give you credit Brum, at least you answered what you thought minimum wage should be. I may not agree with you but you had enough balls to put a number on it.

Minimum wage applies to more than just single adults. I brought up single moms from the very beginning.

Any single mom raising kids and providing a home is not living on minimum wage anyway.
Are there any stats on how many single moms live on their own with a minimum wage job without government assistance. So unless you are trying to raise minimum wage to a point where we eliminate all assistance, I really don't see your point.

Not to mention how you won't put a number on it. What should it be bri?

br
brian, your points and contentions have been repeatedly countered with facts on this thread. Are you willing to admit that you were a little off base?

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

I don't feel they're off base. There still hasn't been a convincing or overly realistic 40/hr week budget proposed.

I think this topic has more to do with, should the burden be put on the employer or the american citizens? Because, as it stands, 7.25 is not a realistic minimum wage.

First of all, the dirt-cheap rent market can in no way sustain the amount of people working minimum wage.

In addition, you basically left zero money in case the individual gets sick (because I'm sure the McD's basic health plan is amazing).

I don't think we should be aiming for minimum wage employees to own houses, but we definitely have to increase it. To what? I'll leave that for the economists to answer, but it doesn't take a genius to see that it's practically impossible to pull it off.

Another issue that has been mentioned earlier is restaurants' ability to pay their employees as low as $2 an hour. Awful.

Not even close to true....there is a surplus of cheap rent housing, and not everyone on minimum wage needs to live on their own...many live with family. They can even get cheaper with roommates.

And you said I "basically left zero money in case the individual gets sick".....also not true.

I left anywhere from $265 - $596 per month for savings or emergency. I would suggest a cheap HSA plan to cover major illness...etc if that isn't available through your employer's or family's insurance plan.

That also is based on working between 40 - 52 hours per week, which leaves additional hours out there to work more, or make strides to better your position in life.

Next red herring?
