Saw that yesterday. Sad to think what these people get away with in the name of money. Amazing that none of these people ever go to jail. |

it looks pretty shady on the surface for sure....is there any legitimacy to the concept that this particular school was doing well and that the poor grade actually exposed a flaw in the grading system? |

Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism. | |

I know, but it isn't like he personally created it.....my employees have created a system from my guidance that ends up not working like I intended it...and we fix it. Often that flaw is discovered in actual operations or production. I'm not saying this isn't shady, just wondering if there is some degree of legitimacy. |

Then apparently you ignored the e-mails. Secondly, the fact is that many schools received A's and outperformed Chantel House. I can tell you personally that the 2.5 grade they received is VERY easy to receive in any non inner city school. The fact is he even looked into whether he could legally change just the grade for Chantel House. It's not "kind of shady on its surface"; it's as obvious abuse of power...period. |

BTW, there is a reason that in a very red state that Tony Bennent got defeated by a political unknown with less than 10% of the budget. He'll, his opponent received more votes than votes than Mike Pence did for governor. If you had ever met or talked with Bennent, this scandal comes as zero surprise. |

BTW, just checked Christel House's numbers. In 2011-2, the year that is referenced, only 23% of those students who took the algebra ECA for the first time passed the test. Statewide, the average was 72%. Even their best scores -- for their elementary grades -- show only a VERY slightly higher average than the state scores. Their most recent I-Read scores for third grade (failing can keep a student from moving on to fourth grade due to being below reading grade level) have them below the state average. The bottom line, there is nothing in their make-up to suggest they were anything better than a C school. |

I just checked the school corporation I teach in...our school had the exact same percentage pass on elementary ISTEP scores but killed them on ECA scores. Our corporation received a B. |

I went to the Indiana data website and figured out exactly what was done to change their grade....it is BEYOND shady. First of all, despite being a K through 12 school, Bennent removed the high school portion of their grade completely.....so the bad ECA scores were removed from record. But this STILL didn't raise them enough. This got them to a 3.5 average; a 4 in elementary math and a 3 in English. So he then removed the 4 point cap from math....it is possible to score above a certain area but the state rules are to limit that cap so that one area does not have an over influence on the grade....so he lifted the cap which allowed to get the coveted 3.75 average. |

Thanks for the info brum...I have no personal connection or info about Bennett, so if he's a scumbag, then so be it! |

It's basically why in such a red state he was the lone state official that lost. He also had previously allotted a ton of money to Marian College to overview charter schools.....where his wife was in charge of doing the overview. |

http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20130731/EDIT07/307319992/1147/EDIT07 Also appears that the others benefitting from the changes were also mainly other charter schools. |
