Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I know this may sound outrageous to you, but 30k for daycare really doesn't sound as insane to me as it once would have. My son is in the most affordable, official daycare we could find (aka, not someone's house). Full-time costs $200 week. It's $250/week for infants. This isn't some crazy awesome facility, it's the childcare center at the local community college. So that's running the average person about $12,000/year. Can't say I'm surprised at all by an elite manhattan center costing $35k. I actually would have thought it would be more.

I'm laughing at the fact that someone would think it is valuable enough to take out a loan. Government backed loans for diaper changing.....you are cool with that? I personally don't think you or I should be on the hook for someone defaulting on a diaper changing loan....call me crazy.

I'm going to push back in this sense. I recently saw this map of daycare violations and it is terrifying.

I also see great value in daycare. Certainly more than just a diaper changing facility. My son has learned so much there and even more importantly, they have taught me skills on how to be a better parent. Our daycare facility is maybe the thing I am going to miss the most about going to Puerto Rico.

While I personally wouldn't take out a loan for daycare, I also have the luxury of a working wife whose salary covers daycare expenses. I understand parents who feel they need their kid to be in the safest, most productive daycare facility they can afford. But that's the key right there, isn't it? THEY CAN AFFORD. I could never imagine taking out a loan I couldn't handle for a 35k daycare. That is obviously extreme.

Thank you. That's was my point.
