I live a few blocks from a section 8 apartment complex which is designed especially for single moms. Part of the rules in no live ins or babies daddy's etc.... It's amazing how many men are in and out of there and standing outside sucking down cigarettes. Usually twice as many cars there as there are apartments too. It's amazing that we give out so much free stuff and don't even enforce the rules to receive those benefits. It should also be noted that if not for that apartment complex, my small town would have very little need for a full-time police officer. Sorry if that offends anyone but it is simply the truth. |

Brum, come on. You know those cave drawings of dinosaurs were just a figment of over active prehistoric imaginations. |

I'm not sure how we got from helping those in need to where we are now, but I just can't believe that anyone would argue against cutting most of our social welfare programs. Food stamps, housing, cell phones....etc...these programs are full of people who are capable and should be taking care of themselves. All the abusers and takers really do is take away from those among us who are truly in need. The young, the sick, the handicapped, the elderly...etc. far too often the answer from the other side is "well we spend billions on wars...etc. OK...so lets stop both. 2 wrongs don't make a right. How about we stop propping up those who can prop themselves up both here and across the globe socially and militarily? Cut spending, cut taxes, help those who need it, but get back to a place where we first look to ourselves and our families for help, not the government. Sounds great right? Why aren't we there? Because artificially propping people and selective industries up is far to lucrative for the folks doing the propping. It makes me sick. In order for me to provide The life that I want for my family, I'm forced by law to provide for others who do not need it, while those doing the forcing gain wealth and power on my back. I'm convinced that if more Americans were informed, we would have a healthy revolt on our hands. I'm not the guy who says that there is a grand disinformation scheme in place to hold some down while others rise. I just think we have created an environment where being uninformed is easier and more pleasing to many in the short term. I don't even think that creation was intentional, but I think it's existence is known and capitalized on by those in power, and that disgusts me. Will it change in my lifetime? I don't think so, but my dream is that it starts to move the other way. It takes a commitment and sacrifice from many for the good of people who aren't even born yet, and that's a hurdle that mankind has rarely made it over throughout history. So yes, I'm certainly asking a lot. End rant....sorry for going all nage on you. |

They were just graffiti vadalism drawn by single moms who wanted to destroy the caves they were renting from their landlords. |

Anyway, enough of the back and forth extremism. You know as well as I do that there are horrible single moms....no different than any other segment of society. I can cite from personal experience both good and ones that were in section 8 housing. I also know section 8 isn't limited to single mothers....the video that you showed wouldn't have been any different if the woman was married. |

I don't even know if that woman was a single mom. Maybe she was. I was just poking fun at Brian's obsession with looking at so many social issues through the narrow lense of the innocent hard working single mom. |

So you were posting video of someone who may or may not have been a single mom as a point against single mothers? Makes perfect sense. |

No, I posted it as a video on the horrors of section 8 tenants. Single moms came up later. |

everyone should transition from section 8 to non section 8. they'll never have a bad tenant. if they have any doubts, this video (and the commentary in it) definitely proves that all gov't assisted housing leads to insane amounts of property damage. br |

Are you denying that government assisted housing gets trashed and destroyed more often than non government housing? |

Right next to my office is the local code enforcement office. I'd say that actual numbers wise, at least in our city, there's no distinct difference. I'd love to see your percentages though... br |
