Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

Germany allowing them to be "identified" later in life as male, female or a new 3rd sex. Why are other countries so far ahead of the US when it comes to these things?

could be that this condition affects 0.002% of births, which equates to about 78 instances per year in the United States. Of those, the majority are sorted out prior to the baby leaving the hospital, so you're probably talking about less than 10 per year.....quick round up Congress...THIS IS OUR MAJOR PROBLEM!!! :D

The Germans have always been ahead of us though...I mean we still aren't rounding up and burning Jews...geez

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

So you are saying this generation of Germans are like the ones in the 40's?

So I guess we can assume we are still a nation that thinks that women and blacks shouldnt vote correct? Maybe believe in slavery too right!!

And where did I say this should be a top priority?

And it doesnt matter how many this effects (although studies show 1 in 2000 babies are born with male and female characteristics). Should we just ignore those who it does effect because there just arent many of them?

Germany doesn't have same sex marriage, and it doesn't look like Asian or African countries would support "intersex" babies.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Civil_War
The American Civil War was one of the earliest true industrial wars. Railroads, the telegraph, steamships, and mass-produced weapons were employed extensively. The mobilization of civilian factories, mines, shipyards, banks, transportation and food supplies all foreshadowed World War I. It remains the deadliest war in American history, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 750,000 soldiers[7] and an undetermined number of civilian casualties. Historian John Huddleston estimates the death toll at ten percent of all Northern males 20–45 years old, and 30 percent of all Southern white males aged 18–40.[8]

"Cool" is an opinion. I prefer to deal in facts when possible.

There are about 70 million births per year, and about 2,000 who are born with this condition, which is about 1,750% less than the amount that you incorrectly quoted.

No, I don't think this generation of Germans is the same as the one from the 40s, although plenty of those people are actually still alive and still are German. My point is that to claim that the Germans are somehow so superior to us with the "forward" thinking is absurd to me.

FYI, slavery was abolished well over 100 years ago, but until an entire generation died out, there were still A LOT of Americans who believed in it. If you want to make the comparison to Nazi Germany, you should compare it to the United States in the 20s or 30s.

And Germany since 2001 has allowed "registered partnerships" which gives most of the same rights as heterosexual marriages.

Actually I prefer to think and reference NOW. I believe it was you who wanted to reference 1940 Nazi Germany.

But i see you and Lars both trying to move this off topic.

You're the one who said "Why are other countries so far ahead of the US when it comes to these things?"

Note that Asia and Africa represent 5.3B out of a total of 7B humans worldwide, and in most of those countries same sex marriage is either illegal or punishable by death.

"Here’s what we do know: If you ask experts at medical centers how often a child is born so noticeably atypical in terms of genitalia that a specialist in sex differentiation is called in, the number comes out to about 1 in 1500 to 1 in 2000 births. But a lot more people than that are born with subtler forms of sex anatomy variations, some of which won’t show up until later in life."

The US is a melting pot that includes a large number of Asian and African immigrants. Trying to paint the US as being so far behind the times is untrue, IMO. I agree that some people are biologically a mixture of the sexes, and think this explains why homosexuality can be caused more by nature than nurture in some cases.
