Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

You are really comparing a business denying service to someone based on their sexuality, race, or religion is comparable to letting someone in your house?

Well you may think that living in America you have the right to discriminate but thankfully the Supreme Court thinks differently

I'm a little torn on this one. I'm generally with Aaron in that I believe a private business has the right to run its business how it chooses. However, when it comes to discrimination the line isn't so clear. I don't believe a business should have the right to hang a "no blacks allowed" sign on their door. That said, there is a bar near my house that has a sign saying you must be at least 30 years old to enter. It's not a strip club or anything, just a bar that caters to an older crowd (most that go there are in their 50's). So why am I OK with that but not discriminating against race or religion or sexual orientation? I'll be honest in that legally, I'm not sure it makes any sense. I think an argument could be made that businesses who discriminate on race or sexual orientation are basically fostering an environment that breeds hate and therefore could potentially lead to endangering other people. That's a fairly big leap though.

I think the fact is that the over 30 bar IS illegal. It's just that no one cares enough to make a big stink about it.

classic...instead of answering the question you go to the "are you really comparing" route.

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

I guess the world I live in has no place for a sign that reads "no blacks allowed"

dreach, what about person putting a sign in the yard of their home that says "no blacks allowed". Stupid, bigotry, dangerous....yes, but allowed?

yes, I am comparing, and you are refusing to answer because it contradicts your own previous statements.

What service are you providing again in your home? I think I missed that

none, but you are saying that discrimination only applies to services?

What about it? I don't even know if that's legal or not (assuming no homeowners association is involved).

Sure it does. To be discriminated against means you were denied. There is nothing in your home someone wants. Unless you are providing a service

well, you're wrong about that. Here is the definition of discrimination: the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things

Now, even if we go with your definition...let's say I'm having a cookout. This is a desirable event, and I choose to limit it to black people only. Is this discrimination? Should it be illegal?

I am done.

If you can't see the difference between a cook out at your home and a business denying a person a service then I can't go any further.

Now feel free to act like you "won" because you make unreal comparisons

Here is what YOU said....not me:
Quote:

And isn't living in America you agree that you do not discriminate against race?

Are you taking that comment back and agreeing that someone can discriminate in America by allowing only a certain race of people into their home, or do you stick to your comment and believe that someone should have to allow all races into their home?
