From what I've heard so far, the guy had some mental issues, PTSD, and was addicted to violent video games....bad recipe. |

I've always thought that subjecting kids to violent movies and video games would lead to desensitization, and a higher likelihood of committing violent acts. Many people strongly disagree with my view. |

I'll never understand the supposed link between violent video games and real time violence. Not saying it doesn't exist, it may very well, but unless a person has some sort of predisposition of breaks into and out of reality, it just doesn't make sense to me. Violent T.V. shows used to catch all the blame, yet still it made me wonder. In the old days there was Gunsmoke, The Big Valley, The Riflemen, etc., along with the Dirty Harry movies, etc., but yet school shootings and public massacres were not near what they are today. Not even sure I heard of a school shooting until my adult years. Crazy people have access to guns. To me, that about sums it up. |

I don't understand it either. My opinion is that video games don't turn normal people into killers. I think if you take someone who isn't mentally stable or has violent tendencies, adding violent tv or video games certainly doesn't help the situation. |

I agree with this. However, do we then take away gun magazines (that have been around forever), baseball bats, crowbars, chairs, rocks, etc. Anything and everything that could be used as a deadly weapon? I'm in no way comparing a gun to a chair, obviously, but if the propensity for violence is there, it seems sooner or later these people are going to act on it. It reminds me of around the time the internet was becoming main stream. I had a buddy at work, a religious sort, that swore up and down he would never have it in his house due to all of the porn that floats around. I asked him if when he got gas for his vehicle, did he go inside to pay for it. Of course he said yes. I then asked him if he realized there were dirty magazines in the convenient store, and again, he said yes, he knew that, but he chose not to look at them. I then said, being a dickhead, "what the fuck's the difference? Just because you have a computer and the internet doesn't mean you HAVE to look at it." My point is, and it's a saying as old as dinosaurs -- it's not the guns, or chairs, or crowbars that kill people, it's the fucking idiots that choose to use them that way. For a second there I thought you were going to make the case that Bobby Knight assaulted Steve Reid with a deadly weapon. :P |

Knight's ego and narcissism were much deadlier than the chair. I still can't believe all the years of his bullying BS, that someone didn't just knock the living shit out of him. Edited by Jazen, Sep 17 2013, 03:05 PM.

It's easy to bully people who are depending on you for playing time/livelihood. I will never understand people who say that Neil Reed was a p****. People like that are a big part of the reason that Knight did what he did and people didn't do anything back. |

No, I don't think we take away anything, but I do think that parents need to be more responsible in monitoring what their kids consume |
