We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions. Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful. Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine! Thank G-d she's ok and that the kid didn't shoot himself instead of her. Unbelievable how flippantly people are with guns. |

Well, to be fair, if the mom also was carrying a gun at the time, the 4 year old probably wouldn't have shot her. |

I don't mean to be an asshole but there's a little bit of me that likes when I hear stories like this about pro gun nuts getting shot when as an anti gun person who has never and will never own one I have never even been remotely close to being in an incident. I'm glad she's ok |

It's odd how accidental gun incidents don't happen when you don't have guns in the house. br |

I am vehemently against guns. I think there's no place for them in civilized society today and think there's a certain poetic justice every time the people who passionately defend their right to bear arms for reasons of keeping them safe have a home incident. Of course I never want anyone seriously hurt and I don't like any time a child is involved |

But i expand it to being in the public. I've never been in a situation where I wished I was armed. I've had a gun drawn on myself and a few friends before at a bar and I'm thankful none of us had a gun because i see no way adding more guns would have made the situation better. |

And along these lines, I don't understand why my safety has to be compromised by the insecurities of others. I know the statistics and know that there's little to no chance of the doomsday scenario used to justify gun ownership. It's a weird, sick fascination, really. The idea that someone would go to such great lengths in the name of "safety for their family" yet are OK watching their family drive to work, an act EXPONENTIALLY more dangerous, is absolutely baffling. Or OK with feeding their children fast food, which has been shown to have a ton of negative health effects, yet don't blink an eye at entering a gun into the household which can lead to a multitude of negative consequences. The whole "but i'm safe and would my kids would NEVER do that" attitude almost urges me to think that our species, or a subpopulation of our species, is taking a big step back. Or maybe it's just mother nature controlling our population or killing off the weakest. I'm sorry if that offends anyone, but it's sad state of affairs when adults are willing to defy all logic and endanger others in order to protect themselves from the boogeyman. I hope Americans grow up some day. br |

There's been a lot of gun debate threads here over the years, and I haven't said much, if anything at all on the subject. The arguments for and against owning guns will never end. For me personally, it's a futile debate. I don't own one, never have, and never will. I've only held a "real" gun once in my life, and it truly made me sick to my stomach. I can understand the safety issue -- I suppose -- for people that live in bigger cities with high crime rates. Problem is, more people, more idiots. An idiot with a gun, criminal or not, is one of the most dangerous creatures on the planet. And some of these idiots bring them into their home with their children. I grew up in a small town here in Indiana and have lived here most of my life, and I'm sure that has something to do with owning a gun in general and never having to "fend off" an attacker. I've got a 34 oz. Louisville Slugger in the corner behind the front door, that'll have to do. Edited by Jazen, Mar 9 2016, 11:53 PM.

My place of employment has been robbed twice. Different places! The first incident was by an armed drug user demanding drugs that were being sold (legally) in the drug store that I ran. This person was obvious not in their right mind. Thankfully we had two armed security guards in the building, due to it's location, and the incident ended peacefully, but not without some tense moments. The second time (now I run a rural bank) the armed gunman was in and out in no time. But the gun was drawn and he threatened the people in my bank. I know I've told the story, I was informed by the FBI that I was a potential target for kidnapping in this situation had the criminal seen me. Therefore I was followed to and from work by state police for 3 weeks. You don't have to be anti-gun to commit violent crimes. It isn't the "legal" gun owners who commit a majority of the armed crimes. If nobody owned a legal gun outside of law enforcement, we would still have violent crimes. Criminals don't register their guns. We never read where a licensed gun owner prevented or stopped a crime. Why is that? Just my .02 and I know I am in the minority. :D |

If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed Meat is Murder. Sweet, delicious murder. | |

Yup. If I was a criminal, I'd be scared of citizens packin' heat, and would support stricter gun control and banning all legal guns. |
