Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I think one thing teams have stopped doing is allowing him to run into contact going to the hoop. They've also backed off of him at the perimeter much more.....if he were knocking shots down like last year, they couldn't do that.

He's dropped from 6 free throws per game to 4 1/2 and free throws as a whole are up overall this year. For comparison, last year he was getting 6 free throws per game compared to Yogi's 3.8. This year, Yogi has shot more free throws than Trimble.
The only times I've been able to watch Maryland was the game at Purdue, their game at IU, and today's game. But it seems like he prefers to shoot on the move (pull-ups, step-backs, or fading to his right). As you said, defenses aren't forcing him to do that now...and then when he sets his feet and shoots a good shot, it misses badly.

As for Yogi, his improvement overall has been very impressive. Going into conference play, I thought IU was headed straight for the NIT and that he would be the reason why. But Yogi's passing game is far greater than Trimble's, and having that extra threatening aspect also creates more FT opportunities.
Trimble definitely has better point guard size for the next level and he's going to be a good player in the NBA. But prior to this season, I liked him much better at the next level than I do now.

I just don't think 41% from 3 is his reality like he shot last year.
You don't expect a 7% drop, though....especially when watching him, he is getting good looks this year. Teams are backing off him and playing the drive.
Sample size matters. The guy hasn't even played an NBA seasons worth of games. And he's played a lot vs low end D-1 teams. I think he's probably more of a mid 30s type 3 point shooter who will go through hot and cold streaks.
“He’s always been a guy — maybe to a fault — he would always try to do what I said. That seems like something simple in coaching, but those are the guys I hang my hat on. We’ve had some guys in our program, we had a couple guys that felt I had a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. And they were right — I do have a bias towards E’Twaun Moore. I like guys that go to class, that are academic All-Americans, that come early, that stay late, that love the game of basketball. I am biased towards those guys. And I’m biased towards Rob Hummel. But I’m also biased towards their habits, their work ethic, and how they carry themselves."

Put the over/under at 36% next year if we were to come back next year (which obviously he isn't), and I'd most definitely take the over.

That said, if he's a mid 30s three point shooter at the college level he's going to struggle with that shot at the next level for a while.

In terms of low D1 teams, he really hasn't feasted on them. He's been better than his career average, but not anything out of the normal.

I don't expect much out of him in the NBA. I think he'll stick but I can't see him being a top 3-4 on a good team. Reminds me a lot of DJ Augustin

Well, he definitely has better size than Augustin. But I do recall Augustin coming out of college and his pro expectations were greater than he showed. He's certainly not a bad player and probably overall has had an okay but unspectacular career for a #9 pick. I agree that he isn't going to be a stud in the NBA -- and I'm much less confident of how well he'll do than I would have been a year ago.

and I would guess every Purdue fan was hoping for a third game against Maryland tomorrow.
I was torn. By losing, it means we probably don't have to compete with Maryland for the better #4 seed. And I want another piece of Sparty.
