| Welcome to Our Hoosier Board! Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions. Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful. Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine! Since we were veering off subject. I thought it would be interesting to focus on political correctness by itself. Why don't you like it? How does too much of it harm people? How would living in a PC-free world affect people? Anti-PC arguments seem to be disproportionately made by those who come from a place of privilege and rarely from folks born into cultural groups that end up on the target of discrimination due to the current state of our society. I don't think informing folks that something they said is culturally insensitive or discriminatory is a bad thing. That said, I also don't have a problem with people expressing themselves in a way reflective of their own identity, so long as it isn't harming emotionally/physically/etc someone else. I don't see this as a rights issue...more one related to humanity. br |

I think the PC culture of today has brought a lot of good things with it, and also goes too far many times. For my part, "gay" was certainly a part of my everyday language and I had to work hard to remove it from my speech, frequently apologizing when it would slip out. That's a good thing right? Is it PC that we shouldn't say "gay" anymore? Absolutely. But is that bad? I don't think so. The problem with everything being PC is when the person who is offended becomes overtly angry, unsympathetic, and outright mean. If you think something offensive, there's a pretty good chance the person didn't realize it, made a mistake, or really had no idea it could be viewed as offensive. When people go out of their way to punish someone as opposed to communicate why it's offensive and why the offending party should rethink what they've said/done, it's unnecessary and, quite frankly, offensive ;) |

Do you think they should rename the Washington Redskins? And if they changed the name to The Hurryin' Caucasians, would you care? We have a local high school with Rebels as their mascot. There was a minor push to change the name, which didn't happen, but they did remove the confederate flag from the large mascot painting in the high school gym. I guess I was taught "Manners" growing up. And in learning "Manners" you didn't offend people. |

Do you think they should rename the Washington Redskins? Yes And if they changed the name to The Hurryin' Caucasians, would you care? Yes Also, Redskin is not equivalent to Caucasian. Native American/Alaska Native is equivalent to Caucasian. br |

So I assume in your mind it would be good manners if you saw a Native American and you were to walk up to him and call him a redskin? |

I think people should grow up and stop being offended. A culture of pussies (and not the good kind) is what we are moving to. |

Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... It does and I do. That has little to do with being a pussy who gets offended so easily. |

How do you not get how it might be offensive to people we drove off their land, committed genocide against, that we then use a slang term for them for a form of entertainment, just for insult to injury. |

So people shouldn't have emotions or reactions to anything? Substitute "pussy" with "fan" and "offended" with "excited". Sounds like a pretty silly statement. |
