Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

I think people should grow up and stop being offended. A culture of pussies (and not the good kind) is what we are moving to.
Quit being offended by people encouraging tolerance/respect
This. So much this.

Weird. I always thought it took a real man to treat others with respect.

I guess I was taught "Manners" growing up. And in learning "Manners" you didn't offend people.
So I assume in your mind it would be good manners if you saw a Native American and you were to walk up to him and call him a redskin?
No, I wouldn't, I was asking to get an idea of what others on the board thought.

Brum, your High School is the Indians, should we change the name?

If a team was call Caucasians, it wouldn't bother me.

This world is screwed up in a big way.

Why is it ok for people of color to call another person of color the "N" word?

I don't like the word regardless who is saying it.

Yeah......that's what I'm doing.

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

Don't be an idiot. You know that statement is bullshit.

It does and I do. That has little to do with being a pussy who gets offended so easily.
So people shouldn't have emotions or reactions to anything? Substitute "pussy" with "fan" and "offended" with "excited". Sounds like a pretty silly statement.
Being excited is a positive reaction and doesn't follow with an action to force someone else to behave differently. Quite different from being offended and you know it. People just need to toughen up man....life is tough, and if you go around hitching moaning and whining about every little thing that offends you, you're not doing yourself any favors.

If someone says something that offends you I have no problem with you telling them about it, but to let it bother you so much that you want to use the force of law to prevent them.....absurd.

Changing the sign because someone complained about "crackhead" is ridiculous. The people who complained should have been slammed. Not spending more time checking travelers who fit the terrorist profile is stupid. Pointing out that >75% of black children live without their father is not racist.

PC'ness allows people to ignore real problems by shaming others from being frank about the problem. The first step is solving any problem is admitting there is a problem. See Obama's refusal to say radical Islam is problematic. Trump rise has been enabled by Democrats and PC'ness.

Also about the team being called the Caucasians again, very different from redskins. And again what i said earlier about how we treated the native Americans

"Liberal, shmiberal. That should be a new word. Shmiberal: one who is assumed liberal, just because he's a professional whiner in the newspaper. If you'll read the subtext for many of those old strips, you'll find the heart of an old-fashioned Libertarian. And I'd be a Libertarian, if they weren't all a bunch of tax-dodging professional whiners." - Berkeley Breathed

The nickname of Indians is a different argument than Redskins, just like the Redskins and Caucasians are not the same type of verbage.

Personally, yes, I would prefer not to have the nickname Indians. But you are changing the original question now.

Anyway, in terms of the nickname 'Redskins', I believe that's a conversation we had face to fact years ago and at the time you felt it shouldn't be changed. Do you still feel that way?

For the record, I am Native American and don't care about the name Redskins. Yes, it is a derogatory term for my ancestors, but it's really not that important and if I don't like it, I don't have to support the team.

It still doesn't bother me.

It is the Nickname of an athletic team, nothing more, nothing less.

It could be changed to the Crazy Crackers and I still wouldn't care.

This article is a couple of years old, but explains where the name came from.

So an emotion is only valid when it's a positive one? Which other emotions would you like to (in)validate?

Note, that before you simply said people shouldn't get offended. Now you are saying it's ok for them to be offended, but just not to do anything proactive that would prevent the other person from saying/doing whatever was offensive. I don't agree with that 100% of the time. I'm sure there are circumstances where I would support someone's movement to end whatever the offensive behavior was. That said, I actually think my post about when things are "too pc" expressed a pretty similar sentiment to yours. So maybe we're not as far apart as it seems.

Sort of. I was reading about Ty Cobb the other day and it was talking about how he was actually supportive of integration in baseball. When he was asked about famous black players of the time he referred to them as coloreds or negroes. He may have respected or was trying to be respectful of them at the time but those are still antiquated terms today...
