Welcome to Our Hoosier Board!

Most of the posters here have been around for nearly a decade now. You'll find their knowledge and insight to be second to none. We have a really strong community and value everyone's opinions.

Feel free to jump into any thread and voice your opinion with conviction. We love heated debates and even some fanbase ribbing from time to time. We pride ourselves on the lack of moderation needed to make this board successful.

Please remember that we have been around many years and have an astute ability to tell the difference between an immature, childish, trash-talking troll and a passionate fan voicing his or her opinion. It is at the discretion of Jazen and myself whether any moderating actions should be taken at any given time. It's a very, very rare thing. In other words, no worries....you'll be fine!

Cheers,
sirbrianwilson

For the record, I am Native American and don't care about the name Redskins. Yes, it is a derogatory term for my ancestors, but it's really not that important and if I don't like it, I don't have to support the team.
In other words, you feel it's a disrespectful but just don't give a shit, and therefore if someone takes offense to it they are just being a pussy.

I think people should grow up and stop being offended. A culture of pussies (and not the good kind) is what we are moving to.
Weird. I always thought it took a real man to treat others with respect.
It does and I do. That has little to do with being a pussy who gets offended so easily.
So people shouldn't have emotions or reactions to anything? Substitute "pussy" with "fan" and "offended" with "excited". Sounds like a pretty silly statement.
Being excited is a positive reaction and doesn't follow with an action to force someone else to behave differently. Quite different from being offended and you know it. People just need to toughen up man....life is tough, and if you go around hitching moaning and whining about every little thing that offends you, you're not doing yourself any favors.

If someone says something that offends you I have no problem with you telling them about it, but to let it bother you so much that you want to use the force of law to prevent them.....absurd.
So an emotion is only valid when it's a positive one? Which other emotions would you like to (in)validate?

Note, that before you simply said people shouldn't get offended. Now you are saying it's ok for them to be offended, but just not to do anything proactive that would prevent the other person from saying/doing whatever was offensive. I don't agree with that 100% of the time. I'm sure there are circumstances where I would support someone's movement to end whatever the offensive behavior was. That said, I actually think my post about when things are "too pc" expressed a pretty similar sentiment to yours. So maybe we're not as far apart as it seems.
being offended is a valid emotion, but I guess the frustration comes from the over sensitivity. If someone tells me my Mother is ugly, or my daughter is a bitch, it's pretty valid for me to be offended and reply in kind. I'm not asking for a law to be written that prevents them from saying it though. I think it's beyond insane to even insinuate that a crackhead should be offended by the word crackhead......I mean, a crackhead knows that it's bad to be a crackhead don't they? It's not designed to be a positive term.

The body knows what fighters don't: how to protect itself. A neck can only twist so far. Twist it just a hair more and the body says, "Hey, I'll take it from here because you obviously don't know what you're doing... Lie down now, rest, and we'll talk about this when you regain your senses." It's called the knockout mechanism.

Brian, you think it's appropriate for people to get so offended by the dumb stuff floating out there and to make such a big deal out of it? No gotcha here...seriously, shouldn't we lighten up as a society and not be so damn sensitive to some of this shit?

I don't think any racial slurs should be tolerated and I don't think people should be telling others not to be offended by racial slurs.

I don't think the criticism against political correctness is really leveled against the use of racial slurs.

But who says that you get to determine what 'some of this shit' is?

You've already stated that 'redskins' is a derogatory term.....and it's a derogatory term that is specific to one race. We aren't talking about a nickname like Braves which could have a positive connotation.
